I was just wondering if there are any rules governing where I can put an outside light in relation to my incoming meter supply cable. Can the supply for the light cross over the main supply cable? Do I need to keep the fitting a certain distance away?

Hi I live in the Highlands of Scotland and I am doing a EICR. The main supply is a 2 core cable supplying phase and neutral and a seperate bare earth wire. I cannot tell if this earth wire goes to an earth rod or to the distributors earth system. How can I check this. Thanks

Turn main switch off remove cover and test at incoming side of switch 230V.
Turn main switch on and at the other side of the main switch 50V. Faulty main switch I thought.
Turn off all RCD's and MCB's and have 230V where I found 50V...
