Hi all on a eicr insulation resistance test between live conductors to earth gn3 says join l & n and test to earth is there any difference between that and testing phase to earth then neutral to earth? As you guys know some boards are a right mess and not in order to locate which belongs to which
Hi.
I'm pricing up a job. I need to run bell wire up the outside of a newly rendered and externally insulated house. Never touched this before and I'm worried the clips won't fix in securely or will damage it. Is this the case? Any one got any experience /tips?
Thanks.
Just saw this. Great demonstration of how NOT to install insulation round electrical cables. No consideration of the CCC of the cable.
Sorry pete, I know this is your job, really.....:D
I have an assignment on Saturday. There are somethings that I do not understand. So Please help me to figure them out.
1)What is the exact value as mentioned by regulations for High Voltage and Low Voltage?
2)If an insulation is good three people should sign to verify. What are those people...

would the builder usually batten/stud out- then board- or will they be wanting to board straight onto the walls??

I am building a garden office and currently have 25mm Celotex in the walls. I am running the ring main around and then want to add some more Celotex.
My question is how much of an air gap do I need to leave for the ring main?
I understand that XLPE cables operate at a maximum temperature of 90c compared with 70c for PVC insulation. What I don't understand is why the increased temperature permits a reduction in conductor size if XLPE insulated cables are used in preference to cables having PVC insulation.
If the...

So my boss had the NIC inspector out the other day and he mentioned that wiring a ring in 2.5 is no longer acceptable. He stated that even wiring a ring in 4mm is now pushing it when it's installed in insulation.
We have always wired rings in 4mm as we wire large holiday homes. All my other...
Hi all, still training so please forgive my very simple question. Why is it ok to test an appliance at 500vdc when PAT testing but great care should be taken to remove all equipment when IR verifying a new circuit installation?
Is it simply just because connected equipment will make a nonsense...

Also just revising: trying to apply a rating factor for insulation on a cable calc. Just in theory, it's not for an actual job.
The cable will be clipped direct to joists above ceiling and is covered in >100mm thermal insulation. I cannot find the correction factor for insulation. Advice please!
Afternoon all,
I am soon to be boarding out the loft on my new home as there's nothing of the sort up there currently. It is just to be for storage so I think I'm going to use 11mm OSB sheets for the actual boarding. When I went up there to measure up, I noticed the FG insulation has seen...
I've recently found the green light flashing and the red light on on our SMA 4000TL with the message 'Insulation resistance, check generator' on the display.
Checking the ERROROB2.CSV files I can see that this isn't the first time it has errored in this way, it has happened on odd occasions for...
Last year at night I was carrying out Electrical Inspection and Testing and Found the 300mm 4 core SWA sub main cable to a chapel was recording 0.09 ohms on carrying out high insulation resistance testing between phases. 25 thousand pounds later its rectified.
Would love to hear other people's...
Doing an insulation resistance test on a shower, can someone explain how to bypass the neon in the isolator? Do most people chock block bypassing neon or another way?
Also for a lighting circuit with flurocents?
Thanks
Doing a loft conversion and wondering about joist drilling.
OSG states to drill in the middle of the joist 0.25 to 0.4 of joist length.
I have 6" joists but the bottom 4" will be filled with 100mm celotex so If I drill at half way my cabling will be in the way of the insulation. It makes more...
i've recently installed a new Consumer unit at home and will be using it as my first niceic assessment. I'm getting an insulation resistance reading of 1.7 on a lighting circuit in the osg it says minimum reading of 1 is this going to be ok?
I've discovered what section of the circuit is giving...
I am installing a C/U and the kitchen has some old Down lights installed with 10 x 12 volt transformers connected. I know I could disconnect all the transformers but I don't plan to do that as it will be a real pain due to how the plasterboard has been bodged. Some opinions suggest the IR...

I recently bought a house and started to rewire it. A sparks mate came and helped with a few bits and I got him capping the chases.
He put a nail through a cable in one chase, then told me he may have done it in a couple of other places, he's not sure!
I had a plasterer going round behind me...
Evening chaps,
In the process of taking my 2394/2395 testing course and just trying to fully get my head around insulation resistance testing predominantly in occupied domestic property's where it isn't possible to dissconnect all loads from the circuit.
I am aware of the need to link out the...
