Testing domestic consumer units.
Is a dead test actually a dead test if the fuse is not pulled or an isolator switch supplied by a DNO is not open.
Don't worry, I'm not about to mess about with this stuff unsupervised, til I'm competent.
Hi
I am probably going to sound stupid asking this question but here goes. I have just bought a new LAP voltage tester. when testing my plug sockets using a socket test connector I am getting a reading of .410V. Now this is where I will probably sound stupid but I was expecting around the 230V...
Hi,
im looking to install a main switch in a commerical premises, so for example board changes, ect can be done without taking out the supply fuse.
Would a rotary isolator be suitable?
Just a bit of a rant really.
I had a di-log voltstick which was bloody brilliant and quite sensitive. It recently broke and a few of the fellas I worked with were using a few different varieties of FLUKE, and knowing that its a good brand I parted with £20 and was dissapointed from the word go...
Hello all!
I've come across a bit of a problem today as I was changing a socket and got a tingle (Isolated the MCB of course).
I tested the voltage and it was pulling 12v.
I've found when you isolate the upstairs lights the 12v on the upstairs sockets disappears.
Its a 17th edition dual RCD...
Hi everyone,
I will be wanting a qualified electrician to install a spur feed from the consumer unit (Volex equipped with RCBOs installed when the mains supply to the house was moved 3 years ago) to an isolation switch located on a plastered wall to supply a new electric single oven and...

I have been trying to pass the written 2394 for a while now. The course that I am on is sadly lacking. I passed the 2395, but am having terrible trouble with the 2394. I have loads of questions, but not sure where to go for the answers...I've given up on my course. The following questions...
Hi everyone, firstly, this isn't a spam post!
You've probably all come across safe isolation lockout kits that are available, some of you may even own a kit. The kits available are fairly comprehensive, so this is a question aimed at purely domestic engineers who might not need all of the...
So i've spent most of today with my head in my hands whilst attempting course work. Long story short i stumbled across section B1.19 of the Building Regulations which states:
'The mains supply to the smoke alarm(s) should comprise a single independent circuit at the dwellinghouse's main...
Hi everyone,
I have completed 2365 L3 couple of months ago and now finally arranged an interview with a big company. Please could anyone tell me what sort of questions should I expect?
Thank you.
Hello,

Hi guys im just wondering my building supply for my buisness is shared with next door but recently they have been isolating my side of the building which is turning the whole unit side down of my buisness. I cannot gain access to next door regarding me turning it on or stopping them turning it...
I've never used or connected a rotary isolation switch before, but job on, got to supply fit 2. Are they so designed that cables enter top /bottom only? If I installed T&E flush could I enter isolation switch from rear. Max size cable would be 10mm T&E. I'm thinking I might struggle due to size...
Touched on this before, unable to find thread. Many thanks for your comments re isolation switches etc.
I've now decided to go for 4 x in line extractor fans all sited in the loft. Also that the isolation switch for each fan be sited along side each fan. The isolation switches will be...

Hi Folks, Maybe a schoolboy issue, but, the scenario. I have a 3 phase cct for a car ramp. It's fed by a 4mm swa which comes off an MEM board via 3 pole MCB to a 32A TP&N MEM Fused (HRC) isolator. My question is: Does it need to be locally fused or can it just be a switch?
