An interesting phone conversation with my own electricity supplier (Good Energy) which was very disappointing, and made me sigh (professionally) :(
They phoned out of the blue to ask if they could book a date to replace my gas and electricity meters with smart versions. I said I'd probably be...
Hi folks,
Homeowner here. I'm in the planning stage of a project, seeking advice from professionals.
I need to upgrade the ventilation in my home following advice from a surveyor. The plan is to replace my one bathroom fan with two fans (one shower extractor and one MVHR unit). In addition, I...
I have moved in 3 days to a flat which seems to have a lot of problems. I have not had hot water yet and the agent tells me I will pay for a call-out if it will be something simple and I could have found it on the internet.. So I am paranoid. The red light is on. I usually would have a shower...
Hello - my sister has had an EICR done for a small flat. There is a C2 for "ensuite no fan isolator" and a C2 for "no isolator for immersion". Just asking if an isolator is a definite requirement for either of these? The immersion is on a radial with its own circuit breaker.
Hi guys, I am going to install a device, it is running microwave magnetron up to 2kW, with power supply of 230V/Single phase/ 50Hz.
According to manufacturer's instruction, it supposed to be connected to a 16A MCB/isolator for protection.
The problem now is that the location only has a 32A...
Hi
I am wanting to purchase a Metal Clad or ABS 40A RCD/MCB isolator to feed a 40 Tube Sun bed, not quite sure whether to get just the 40A RCB or get a 63A RCB with a 40A MCB , something on the lines as per pics shown, I need it to be as small a foot print has possible.
cheers

Hi Everyone,
Thank you in advance for your assistance, I"m assuming that having an unenclosed main switch is against the rules ?
Should it be sited within the same Consumer Unit or a separate enclosure ? The Consumer Unit, meter and main switch are housed within a wooden formica cupboard (2nd...
I am considering fitting a car charger using 6mm SWA to a new isolator switch in the meter cupboard and then 6mm T&E to the CU. It would save running the SWA all the way to the CU. Does anyone else do this and if so, which isolator is best for SWA? Thanks
I’ve just replaced a faulty 63A double pole isolator supplying a feed to a consumer unit several meters away to a flat.
ive come to do the notification on the niceic web page and there is no appropriate category to tick other than
circuit addition or alteration in a special locatiom
install a...
Hi all,
I have been asked to fit an extractor fan to a bungalow, normally I chase out a box for the fan isolator and locate it above the bathroom door, is there a reason I cant locate it in the loft, im guessing due to accessibility or something, but just wanted to check?
Many thanks,
Martin
Anyone know if there is a reg in regards to supply going in to the top of a rotary isolator. We are changing the isolators over for ac units, long story short they won't reach the top terminals now, so feed can only go in bottom. Just a 2.5mm 3 core swa.
Cheers
Hello all,
Just wondering if my en-suite is wired correctly .
There is a timed extraction fan and bathroom light in there .
There is an isolator switch outside the door. When you turn off the isolator the light stops working too.
Is this correct?
Should the isolator not stop the fan only and...
Setup:
Consumer unit fed via sub main from a 60A fused isolator switch. This is connected to the service head MET via a 2m earth connection.
How would one go about both calculating and documenting the Zs?
Would you be treating the fused isolator switch as it’s own db and therefore be...
I came across this today when changing a shower isolator that was stuck in the on postition.
40A Hager RCBO feeding 10mm² twin + earth to a pull cord shower isolator. On the load side of the isolator there was 10mm² going off to the shower as you would expect, but also from the isolator was...
Hi,
I have just replaced an old isolator switch on our shower and have discovered after wiring that the old live wire is a little exposed through the cable shield (presumably where it has been snagged in the ceiling at some point - see photo). I'm a little concerned that this could be a...
Hi There
Just wanted to double check if I have two separate supplies to a cooker and hob which are both hard wired and fed from 2 separate RCBOs do I need to fit two cooker isolators in the new kitchen. Many Thanks
Hi , I've recently moved into a propery with an electric shower installed , there is no isolation switch in the bathroom, the showers seems to be wired directly from the consumer unit , it is on its own supply and can be isolated at the board , is this sufficient to pass an electrical test ? Or...
