so is the span the entire length of the joist from front to back of building or is it between the supports? ie in the kitchen i'm...

Somebody mentioned these to me the other day. Silverline do one for £30 (plus arbour) with 5 plugs. Anybody use one and what are the advantages and disadvantages please?

Hi,
I am fitting a set of 15 kitchen downlights (50w) but have made the classic mistake of cutting out some holes right next to the joists. The manufacturers intructions dont actually mention distance from joist, just says keep 100mm from insulation material, however I have a concern over the...
Currently doing a rewire on an old house. Loft has 50mm joists at right angles to a large central joist 200mm. So I can clip cables along the centre of the loft with no problem. Using installation method 101 it would seem that I can lay the cables out to light fittings between the joists on...
Usually found in timber frame builds. They are the ones with a bit of 50x50mm batten top and bottom with metal webbing down the sides.Just wondering what you boys do? There is no joists to clip your cables to?! P clips maybe? Some people don't care about their first fix but I always like it...
I am rewiring a property built in 1953.

Hi, I have my assessment on the 23rd June and I've done my CU change which is mounted direct to brick garage wall however directly above is the garage roof which is joist and then a timber t&g deck above. The timber is about 50mm away from the DB. Do you think I should plaster board this? Fire...
I intend replacing a pendant light fitting with a new light and fan unit (heavy weight), however the screws of the pendant were only fixed into plasterboard and not into the joist because the wiring exited the plasterboard in between the two joists.
The plasterboard is not going to support the...
Could anyone point me in the right direction for requirements to drilling joists? eg. distance out from end of etc... Have used a guidance sheet before but really dont have the time to trawl google searching for regs.
Cheers
I went to quote for fitting fire rated downlighters in a new build property tonight, but the customer is looking for them to replace existing pendants and batten holders.
Does anyone know if these are normally fitted adjacent to joists in a new build property?
Didn't think about it till I...

where the other measures of 7671 522.6.5 are not used and a cable passes through a joist less than 50mm from the top, the cable must have adequate mechanical protection against nails, etc. Please tell me, does this requirement only apply to the parts of the cable passing through the joist? or...
