I was called to a single phase installation in a pub as the staff were receiving shocks when touching equipment such as fridges water pipes etc. I located a damaged cable where line and PE conductors were touching and causing 240 volts on the entire earthing system at the installation. In other...
Hi there, i was wondering if anyone could help me out quickly, BS3036 fuses that still use the original carrier but have been replaced with plug in mcbs....any idea on the BS number of these? Cant find em in the regs book and trying to find max Zs...? Cheers
Hi, I planned on replacing all the fuses in my consumer unit with MCBs. I found some on eBay for cheap which were listed as working so I got those, but the pin spacing is different to the old fuses. They didn't come with the base socket so is it just going to be a case of getting a new socket...
Can anyone tell me if the different generations of QOE MCBs are compatible.
Need to replace an MCB with an RCBO, and can only get a newer style RCBO that has been guaranteed to work properly
Does anyone know if you can still get Wylex NS mcb's. Need a 6amp one, but cant find any. If not someone told me that hager, may do one thats compatible. Cheers.
Hi folks, client has asked for upgrade of MCBs to RCBOs on split board to bring up to speed. Upstairs and downstairs lighting currently unprotected and there's no 2 way on the stairs. If I upgrade to RCBO, is there a reg that I need to refer to about the absence of a 2 way? They don't want one...
A customer has bought a CCU but with MCBs that are a different brand. The breakers fit in the board and on the bar no problem. Is there any reason why this should not be done??
I was interested in performing Trip tests for AC & DC MCBs for my customer. I will be injecting double the respective rated currents through the MCBs & check the tripping time against their type curves.
Is this method acceptable, quick & portable

Hi all
I've just fitted a new consumer unit. 10 way twin RCD.
After a very long day struggling in a tight location I powered up.
Switched on RCD furthest from isolator, held in OK, switched on mcbs protected by that RCD all OK
Switched on RCD next to isolator wont stay in. Even with no mcbs...

as you been very helpful before I have more questions :)
what MCBs would suit below described circuits?
1. ring serving 3 heaters, pvc cable in non metallic conduit ref.C, about 25m ring length, live is 2x5mm^2, cpc is 2x1.5mm^2
2. TP serving 1 aircon unit, pvc cable in tray, about 4m...
Any ideas appreciated..I was called to investigate 2 tripping single phase mcbs on a 3 phase board. a 32 amp mcb supplies a ring main and a 16 amp mcb supplies a radial circuit. They are on different phases. The 32 amp mcb does not trip until the 16 amp mcb is switched on and at that point both...

As far as i know, there is no way of checking an MCB for correct operation.
Then today, i've been told you can do it by placing the breaker under load and using an EFLI tester to do it.
How the hell would this work, sound like bull to me.
This is a really basic question. I have an old Crabtree Starbreaker c/u (dated 1992) that uses mcbs that slot in. Is there a recommended method to remove them as obviously I do not want to use unecessary force. The instructions tell how to intstal them but not to remove. Thanks, Paul
Hello,
I wondered if anybody has experience of this board and any make of RCBO that would fit. I would like to fit a separate RCD unit for a shower but space is tight.
Any help is appreciated
