Hi,
Had a look at a job today and noticed external lighting had been wired in white FP, clipped to wall surface.
I informed them mechanical protection must be provided and they insisted the board had RCD protection and it wasn't required.
Anyone else seen this before.

Hi All,
Been asked to connect up a mains water feature which comes with a 10m rubber flex.
Just wondering if anyone else has done this and how they protected the cable to the pump from mechanical damage.
Thanks

Is there any way to find a DIN rail mount SPDT time relay with adjustable transition/changeover time. Need to automatically switch between two reversing contactors without mechanical interlock depending on the coast time of a relatively high inertia load.
It might be more cost-effective to use...
I Have been to look at a job today. It is a flat roof garage which has been built on to the side of the house at some point and now it is being converted into a living space. The issue is that the main incoming cable for the house comes in overhead and then down the old outside skin of the...
Hi all,
Just after a bit of advice from all you domestic installers out there.
I've been asked to do a job in a house which involves running a cable in a wall. The cable needs to run vertical the entire height of the wall. However I cannot run it where the walls meet at an angle due to...

What are your thoughts using metal conduit just for mechanical protection. In the past the regs said if a short piece of metal protection was used for just mechanical protection it needn't be earthed. The reason I ask is that I've just installed 2 x 20mm lengths flush side by side for the solar...
Doing a job where the cables to the pumps used to buried in concrete. Don't ask me why but I am there to fix it.
Cable has a fault and need to replace.
A inch channel of the brick work removed is now there so am going to clip the cables into the channel. But as it is in the cellar and a small...
with regards to rewires is mechanical protection required ,
istall obviously has rcd protection so i believe not and also doesnt require to be 50mm in depth from surface ??
This might come across as a stupid question but im only a trainee and still learning.
Do you need to mechanicly protect cable clipped direct in a commercial building but its protected by 30ma RCD, the cable is flex and the circuits that have been installed are fixed power outlets on 13a plug ...
