Anyone had issues with the RCD's? Added a spur from a new DB yesterday (not installed by me). The RCD failed the 5x test when tested at the load terminals with all mcb's off. Perplexed I tried the other RCD with the same result. MFT tested the RCD on another job later with results as expected.
Hi all,
New to the forum, question regarding Band 1 and Band 2 segregation...
So on a site I'm working on, installing access control system. Now the access control panels have designated metal trunking for all relevant cables being low voltage. The trunking is directly above the panels. The...
Hi all, just thought i'dd share the picture of the live distribution board we came across this afternoon following a callout
not only was this live when we got there (seems that the fire brigade removed the wrong fuse from the ryefield board) but is a shocking example why every old...
Wheres the best value for £ metal buckle clips to be found in 2019, ive seen the SAREN ones but they are well pricey, and you need to buy the nails for them separately. The Shneider metal clips from screwfix £12 per 100 wtf. Where are the compliant housebashers getting clips for T&E nowdays ??
Bought 2 metal wall lights arrived today and just opened them.
They are completely metal in construction states on the fitting they are class 2 and have no earth connection.
The cables leaving the chocbox inside to the lampholder are single cores.
How can this be class 2?
I'm your average DIYer and after advice about replacing a pendant light with a new flush metal fitting. I can fix the new light to the ceiling and the existing rose sits within the void of the new fitting without any clearance issues. Is it OK to leave it in place and wire the new fitting into...
Hi everyone
I inherited an old WW2 angle poise metal lamp recently. It works fine, but I'm not sure it's safe... the wire looks antique and is obviously just 2 cores.
I've thought about putting a new cable in it, and I'm guessing that it needs earthing as it's a metal lamp.
Can anyone advise...
I have just done an EICR... Havnt finilised coding yet.
Property is TN-C-S
Incoming oil to boiler... Copper oil line with pvc sheath, buried to metal oil tank sat on slabs on ground (it is not raised up) technical said it should be bonded.... Imo by bonding im taking pme potential out to the...
Hi,
Need a word of advice, how should I run supply to two metal sheds that are located about 20m away from the main DB. Should I run in SWA with 10mm bonding and as separate circuit to each shed or through sub-board adjacent to them? What IPX of switch and lighting should be, I'm expecting some...
Have things changed and I missed the memo.
Let's start by saying I'm a fossil. I was trained the old way, were u went with a mate and went to night school and day release. Anyway, was on a domestic fault for a mate of a mate. I rocked up, kitchen ring tripping. Asked any recent works, holes...
I'm looking to change ceiling light - from Ikea, its metal but there is no earth on new light connectors...i thought any metal light needed earthing?! The light is class II double insulated fitting so would that be the reason for no earth on light connector?? Will this be safe to fit with no...
Just been discussing this story, apparently some metal play equipment was giving people a shock, close to overhead powerlines and a transformer...
a small mention of dry condition, wondering on the cause? could it have been acting as a sort of rod and picking up some sort of fault via earth?
Or...
Can't seem to find any standard circuit diagrams for sequential reversing starter. The metal detector conveyor has manual mode and automatic reversal mode. Need to prevent the conveyor from going backwards during false signals or anything else while the conveyor is standstill. It should reverse...
Evening all.
I may have to fit a weatherproof junction box to a hollow, round metal pole.
The junction box will be around 20-30cm from the ground and 2 x SWA will enter from the bottom (CW20). 1 x rubber flex will leave through the back of the JB into the pole and up to the top where the light...
I have a couple of lights on a circuit that does not have a CPC. The light fittings are plastic but they have a metal trim that screws into the plastic body.
I wonder if anyone can advise me if these are deemed as safe considering the main body of the light fitting is plastic and the metal trim...
Hi all,
I am hoping someone has already had this problem and can suggest a solution.
Last minute decision by client to have an electronic release on a door means we have to mount the power supply (bell systems 340c) on the wall in a public space so it needs to go in a metal enclosure.
PSU...
Obviously bs7671 governs us in our electrical trade, and to the 18th we will need to use metal clips in all areas where cables are surface mount. So do data/cctv engineers have to use metal clips ect to prevent from premature collapse and who governs them to do so?
Anyone know if there is a conduit strap available in UK market similar to this one:
One Hole EMT Conduit Strap, Steel, 1/2 in. | Garvin Industries - https://www.garvinindustries.com/hanging-and-support/cable-conduit-surface-mount/emt-one-hole-straps/ohs-50
I'm thinking for 20/25mm pvc conduit...
