Hi
i've been told 25mm meter tails now have to be blue/blue? yet i can't find a supplier of 25mm blue/blue cable...
does anyone know if you're still allowed to use blue/grey & if you're not, where can I find blue/blue?
Hi all,
Im wiring a domestic property where the cu needs positioning about 15 meters from the meter. I'm going to wire using swa. I'm aware that I will have to provide a means of isolation with tails over 3 meters but must it be a switch or specifically a swicted fused isolater? The cost is...
Does anyone understand the logic of 'mandating' 25mm meter tails when upgrading a CU, when the sizing of other cables are left to the electrician's discretion?
I'm again having to explain to a little old lady with not a lot of money that she's need new meter tails with with tiny 6-way board...
Hi Folks just started working on domestic after working on big stuff with the MOD for a long time & a problem has cropped up. The supplier has moved the meter to outside of the building requiring cable updates (uninsulated neutral at the moment) leaving an approx cable run distance of 15 to 18...
Hi Newbie here with a question.
I'm due my assessment with Elecsa in about 10 days and my assessment job will be a new consumer unit installation.
I've had to put in new tails meter to consumer unit ( the old ones were wired 6mm twin and earth believe or not!!).
Anyway I have marked the...

Hi everyone
This is my first thread on the forum. Iv'e been reading others and there's some good info out there. I've been installing solar panels for last six months and on many an occasion there is either no spare way in the existing consumer unit or I've been unable to match the existing...

Hi I am a newbie and would not dare to say I am a spark! I am a plumbing and heating engineer but I have just completed Part P full scope and I am doing 17th edition next week. I am looking at putting a new CU in at home partly cos the one I have isnt 17th compliant and partly to go through the...
DNO has upgraded service fuse from 30a to 60a, they do not want to go any higher due to the main feed cable.
CU is 4-5m away, connected via switchfuse. Should 16mm or 2mm tails be used, OSG recommend 25mm but seems to assume a 100a supply.
With a 60a head, what size switchfuse should be used...
Hi people,
I'm sure there is one 'simple answer' to this but between those on site we now have a multitude of opinions.... So, thouight I'd ask people with a bit more experience what the best way of doing this is. The supply company has changed it's mind on the position for the meter for a few...
Hi all,
i have a job i am currently doing in an older building that has 2 x MICC supplies running into it. the old distribution boards were metal so the MICC gland terminated straight into the board housing provided a connection with the earth bar as that too was connected to the board...
Hi All , Got to move the consumer unit for a friend , i believe the furthest it can be moved from the meter is 3 metres but can i bury the double insulated meter tails in the wall or do they need to be uncovered or in trunking. If they can be buried , what protection is needed ?
Many thanks
Chris
Hi all.
I am interested in the method used to connect the meter tails to a 100A isolator. Could anyone explain their method of connecting these meter tails to the isolator.
Thanks
The property I was at today meter tails need upgraded as the supply to the consumer unit ain't big enough, anyway the local authorities power supply comes in the garage to an old fashioned isolator (one of those with the handle on it) and then the meter tail comes out and travels about twenty...
I am just coming up to my first year as a qualified Electrician after changing careers from a Fraud Analyst and this site has answered many of the questions that I have had for which I am very thankfull.
Today I was asked to look at a 2 house / 8 flat conversion that was about 75% complete...
Just wondered what the general concensus was regarding what seems to be the norm of stripping back a little of the outer sheath of meter tails to show the underlying insulation colour?
Is this acceptable or considered bad practice?
Cheers
Hi All,
Im in need of a little advice, I've been asked to change a consumer unit that is over 3 meters from the main feed! The location is in fact in the basement of a shop down stairs! So if you need to isolate the tails you would have to gain access to the shop and then to the shops store...
Pig of a day and my brain is mush - is there a minimum diameter for meter tails on a TNS system, assuming they are adequately sized for the max demand?
This is probably a really stupid question........:rolleyes4:
I have today come accross my first polarity problem.
while checking a socket i found it was showing reverse polarity with L and N.
After checkig behind the socket and all other sockets on the same ring all were correctly wired.
I checked the polarity of L and N at the consumer unit and although...
