Hi all
Just checked job and 6mm live supply is burnt out on 8.5kw shower. Run is 4 metres clipped direct with no insulation my calcs are that this should be perfectly fine. Was also on a 40 amp wylex push type mcb. Terminations seemed fine. Has anyone got any possibilities what may be causing...
Hi there
I preface this query with: I am an almost complete electrical novice. I need to control the speed, startup and slow down of a 2100W induction AC motor through a VFD. My workshop has ordinary Australian 240v single phase supply. I can find plenty of VFDs that convert single phase to 3...
So after turning on a shop vac, the lights and outlets in the room went out. No breaker or gfci have been tripped. I also am not 100% sure what breaker this string of outlets is even on. I cant trace it without making holes in the walls. Asnyone have any ideas or had a similar problem?
Some background info.. maybe you can help. I have a den that was running 600-800 watts worth of electricity and on the other side of the den is the living room in which I had another 1100 watts running. One day I plugged in a standard lamp cfl light bulb and noticed it dimming as if the current...
Got a customer with a 3 phase looped cut out. Only use one of the phases and there is likely a second fuse on the adjacent holder/phase.
I have asked the DNO to take a look and advise as the customer wants an EV charger. With a looped supply you should get dnos advise first. ENA guidance also...
Been asked to check some one's house electrics, lots of DIY stuff. Nearly all sockets up and down are on radial circuits and 2 circuits going into each MCB. Bad points doing it this way?
Hi, I've recently moved from paper certification to online. All works ok with my laptop but can't seem to click on options with the iPad! Any ideas greatly welcome.
I need to move my consumer unit (only by 500mm or so) which means new tails. I have no DP isolator between the supplier’s cut out and my consumer unit. I intend cutting the seal on the cut out and pulling the fuse. I will then fit a 100A DP switch to the existing 25mm tails from the cut out...
I have 10 7.5A lights in a room on a breaker 10x7.5a=75a so 75a ÷ 230v is something crazy like 0.3A so what am I going to use a 1A breaker ? another example I have 700w AC unit 700w ÷ 230v= something like 3.2A yet again ovs not gonna use a 4amp breaker for a AC unit??? What am I doing wrong...
I'm looking to run an led light directly from mains power.
I currently have a socket with phone charger plugged in to power it. But it looks ugly and sticks out.
I'd like to chop the plug off and wire it directly into a fused box. Any advice on what I'd need for this? 12v fused socket? Or do I...
I just put a wash into my machine 'Hotpoint Aquarius 900 WM61. It started OK then tripped the mains switch. I've checked the fuse in the plug that works.. I'm at a loss as there's a wash inside it with water. I'm just wondering what would be the best course of action? I've not had problems with...
Evening, we have a machine (being deliberately vague) it has a main motor, which is driven by a VFD, on the spindle of the shaft driven by the motor is a rotary incremental encoder, something like 1000 pulse / revolution. This encoder controls a Servo Drive which drives a small motor for another...
Hi, I am trying to make a feature lamp out of a Guinness LED beer front, I need to transform from 240v to either 12v 50Hz 520mA or 24v 50Hz 220mA (pic)
What transformer is needed?
I have a LED transformer that gives 25-42V (pic) is this to powerful?
Thanks in advance
Hello everyone,
I have recently qualified, though yet to start practising, as an electrician.
I have noticed, at my home, the tails from the (single phase) 100A mains cut out to the 100A rated meter, from the meter, to a 60A isolator and from the isolator to the antiquated fusebox are all...
So there I am trying to get to sleep at 2am this morning when a thought popped into my head. (I'm one exciting person to be with :tearsofjoy:) Not that I am thinking of doing it, ever done it or seen it done, I will still ask the question as otherwise I will be up again all night trying to work...
Hello everyone,
I have recently had a bathroom refurb in our new house as it had no bathroom fitted before. I have a 8.5kw electric shower that is isolated by a 45 amp pull cord. The shower stopped working so I had an electrician come and have a look and the pull cord wires are completely black...
3 of the 6 lights run by the same switch went out at the same time. Tried new bulbs, switching bulbs that worked no go. When the switch is off and I go to insert a new bulb it will flash on momentarily. Are these controlled by some type of ballast? Thanks
Hi guys,
I posted in here the other week and thought I'd figured out my mistake but now I've landed with another problem.
I'm trying to replace 2 walls lights - like for like - the 2 lights are powered by a double switch in our living room. One switch controls 2 lights on one half of the room...
I have photoelectric sensor (6-36 V), PNP, NO+NC and when I power it for first time, it generate output signal with no reason (there is no object to detected)
What is the reason for this and how to deal with this problem?
