Since my father-in-law passed away recently we've been renting out his house and had Gas Safety and EICT testing done. There are no 'portable appliances' as such, but an oven and hob and extractor hood are provided in the kitchen plus an electric shower and fan in the ensuite plus an immersion...
I have an SWA cable running from the CU to the garden that the previous owners had fitted, but no longer worked when I moved in a few years ago, that I want to reinstate.
The cable itself runs from the kitchen where the CU is and is then buried under the floor, under the utility room and shower...
Hi. When certifying a small 2 way garage board.
Do I carry out ze at the origin of supply or should I record a zs db reading in the garage?
Same question regarding the fault current and short circuit current aswell should it be taken from garage or origin of supply?

Hello all, my question is regards to a eicr. I have come to a property to do a eicr and have come across the lighting circuit neutrals in single insulated with no earthing. The live have earthing, which are single but the neutrals have none. Would this constitute a c2 or a c3. Thank you in advance
On initial verification of new installations I have been having a hard time with insulation resistance.
With RCBOs, fixed LED luminaires, intelligent dimmer controls and other sensitive equipment now the norm on almost all installations how do we overcome this and still carry out effective and...
I work for a charity (Besom) that gets equipment that needs to be PATted. A lot of these come with 5 amp fuses. Please do the regulations
allow you to use 5 amp fuses, or are you supposed to change them to 3 amp? Most of these devices are low power & they will run perfectly
well on a 3 amp...
Good morning everyone,
I have been asked to do the initial verification on a newly completed building. so all the light fittings have been installed, false ceilings have been closed off,..etc.
what is your suggestion for testing the lighting circuits?( continuity, IR tests) some of them are at...
Hello,
We have a load of PAT testing coming up,... unfortunately.
I'm aware that we have now moved from the 4th Edition to the 5th Edition of the code of practice (September).
Has much changed?
If you have a Kewtech KT77 and its asking you to enter the date and time each time you turn it on it means the backup battery is dead. I've seen sites charging over £60 to replace the battery. It's simple enough to do it yourself. The battery is available online for around £3 or from RS if you...
Hi after Issuing a EIC to a builder for electrical work(New ring and lighting to a kitchen extension, plus a new Ccu,) what would be a reasonable time that the builder should issue the certificate to the local council .He has only just done it but the cert was issued 18 months ago and the council...

Not used my Kewtec KT77 since it was recertified in January. Switched on on Wednesday to be told it needed a service! How do I reset? If I leave it on it clears in 30 minutes. If I switch off and switch on it starts with no problems.

Evening all,
This has probably been answered somewhere here, but in case it hasn't... I have a Fluke 6500-2 and had trouble testing SPD extension leads as you cannot drop the voltage to 250V using the IEC lead test button. I found a way to set up an auto test sequence to include EB and 250V...
Stupid thread time. We hear a lot about getting meters calibrated and checked regularly but not a lot of detail about what is actually done.
Is it just testing against preset levels? If a level is off (beyond tolerance), how exactly is it corrected?
Would love a point to point on exactly what...
Hi lads,
I have a Megger 1552. I didn't really use it in the last couple of years. I was planning to get more into testing again, so sent it for calibration.
Unfortunately, it failed. I was told it requires a new side socket where the test leads plug into the tester. As the tester is old...
Hello all, I have a query on a eicr, I have been asked to do, the cu is installed vertically, just was wondering what code you would give. Thank you in advance

Please ignore the left side pic
how many ohms can you have neutral to earth without opening a 30mA RCBO.
My thinking is If=V/R so, If=230/0.03 = 7.6Kohms
So 7.7kohms will keep it closed
Hi all, I've never posted in any sort of forum before, but this time... I cannot find answers anywhere.
I need to know if items that are in indefinite storage still need PAT testing.
I'm the maintenance man at an animal rescue centre, we have alot of equipment in storage e.g. heat mats...
