Hi,
Hope all are well,
I just need clarification on a job Ive done with regards to the certification.
I have wired an extension to house which includes a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. The old house is installed to 17th edition. The extension has a new DB that the extension circuits are...
Hello all,
I am new to PAT testing and have a Fluke 6500-2. I am having an issue whereby I cannot seem to drop the voltage down to 250V when testing a surge protected extension lead. I have read in a couple of places that without a means of lowering it from 500V simply hit the IEC test button...
Hi all, new to this forum and could do with some advice re Pat Testing.
As the new law relating to EICR's to the private rented sector is coming up, I'm getting calls from my clients about the inspections but now they are also starting to enquire about having PAT testing done. I'm fully...
I came across a type of water heater that I haven't seen before. It has a 3 core flex attached and fits into the sink where an ordinary tap would usually go. I had to fail it as it had a two-pin continental style plug fitted and was being used with a unearthed adaptor.
My question is would it...
Hi have had the megger 1741 MFT.
Error code 140 has appeared on the tester which is a fault on the circuit board for the 3 lead low zs test
This is the third time it’s happened, already sent it of twice to be repaired since buying it from new just over a year ago.

Does anyone know off hand when the 5th edition is supposed to come out, with the lockdown I can't get an official response.
The draft "in service inspection and testing 5th edition" was out late last year for comments, and as I haven't got a copy of that, I don't have the timescales that were...
We have some 32A extension leads that range from 5m to 20m, I'm struggling to find what the acceptable values are for the resistence test. The PAT tester has a built in calculator, but that only goes up to 4mm cable, this is using 6mm. Where can I find the information I need to get the pass...
Evening all
Currently studying to take my 2391 course, in guidance note book 3, page 23, 553.2.2 it says "Particular attention should be paid to the requirements for cable couplers to ensure that the connector (female part) of the couplers us fitted at the end remote from the supply."
Surely...

Hi there.
As I understand NAPIT approved contractors automatically are able to carry out PAT testing with there yearly subscription.
Do NICEIC approved contractors get the same benefit? I'm currently just a domestic installer and would have to pay an extra £450+VAT per a year for PAT testing!!
Hi Everyone,
I have recently bought a UNI-T PAT tester ( UT528) and have few questions:
It is mentioned in the handbook, to limit the earth continuity test for some appliances such as TV between 20 and 200 mA. When I check the UNI-T operation manual, it is mentioned the test current for earth...
Folks,
A bit baffled (not difficult) ... added a light switch in a rental this week (empty property so no social distancing issues) and checked the RCD before I signed off. It was a Wylex 80a 30mA and it failed all tests (inc. ramp) so I like-for-like replaced it. The new one also failed all...
When I bought my house we had it inspected before buying to highlight faults, so the inspection and testing done by RICS Chartered Surveyor and the report made. This clearly covered more than the electrics, but it did refer to the electrical installation so included a type of electrical...
Had a chap around yesterday evening to give me a quote for some plasterboard work. Seems he also has recently qualified in his testing capacity. Without naming names here is his profile

i have been in the electrical trade for 9 years, I qualified 5 years ago and passed my testing and...
Dear all
Testing Zs on fluke 1663 returned an error code 4

Hi all,
This has got me stumped as it's the first time in 8 years this has happened.
I undertook a 250v test on a brand new recently purchased Surge Protection extension lead - all is well but on each of the 6 sockets it failed the Polarity Test.
Tested the IEC Lead and all was fine so not that...
