Q. imagine you have discovered a water pipe in a bathroom that has been repaired at some previous time using a plastic connector
-So I am a little confused about this question because, I am being asked to explain why this situation can be dangerous also.
how can you "remedy" the situation...
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for some opinions, I've got a customer with a gas meter in an in ground box (see picture). The pipe to the meter is plastic as the meter was moved a few years ago but its metal where it enters the house from the outgoing side of the meter.
Would you bond this?
The customer...
Hi guys
I’ve seen people state in forums that it is permissible to bond a gas pipe as a continuation of the bonding of the rising water mains. Can anyone supply proof/documentation/official guidelines etc., where this is explicitly stated.
Below is an image of what I am planning. My gas safe...
What do you guys think about using decommissioned gas pipe which is welded throughout and 4" industrial in steel.
I am clear on regs that say you cannot utilise a gas, oil or water pipe as a bonding conductor but this would effectively safe a lot of time and money.
The best position for a CU is in a cupboard that has a vertical copper gas installation pipe that would be about 25-80mm from a metal CU. This pipe supplies a boiler. Not a gas service pipe, or gas meter, just a copper gas pipe, with no joints, near the CU.
1) Is this OK by current regs as...
Hi guys, sorry if this has been asked before.
I’m currently in a flat where the tenant queried the water bonding. There’s a 6mm green and yellow leaving the DB and goes to the gas meter as it’s clipped direct I can see it isn’t continuos and go to the water. There is also no other bonding...
We have a mystery pipe on our pool deck in Southern California. Photos are here:

Do you think it contains electrical wires? If so, would it be 110V AC or 220V AC? It's located in a place that might be suitable for an outdoor (electric?) grill. Or...
Hi all
Just a question on segregating of cables and other services. I have a tray route to install for a small cafe and going to be supplying some sockets etc and oven units. But I am planning on running this under the raised floor but my tray route is hitting the CH pipes for the restaurant...
Hi all,
Came across this yesterday on an EICR. Cables and pipe were boxed in with MDF which, when removed, revealed some quite untidy cabling (although the cables all seemed secure enough when tugged) which also passed behind the horizontal gas pipe. I can't find the relevant reg number, but it...
Went to a house this morning to locate a fault causing the RCD in a split load board to trip.
Going through the usual tests, I decided to put my earth leakage clamp meter on the earthing conductor.
Here is where it gets weird: with the main switch in the off position, the meter was reading...
Hi,
It's got to a point that our poor car just isn't cutting the mustard anymore. It was never designed to be used as an electricians car. Up to now I've managed, but I've got much bigger jobs coming up needing to work at height, transporting conduit and so on, so it has to go.
With family...
Being a bit naughty, as this isn't electrical, but I thought It would get far more replies rather than in another part of the forum. Reckon I've got an hour or two before Westward spots it ?.
I need to get some weight plates for my barbell, standard 1" diameter hole (not olympic size). However...
I have constructed a cast iron pipe man figure ( steam punk type ) using a small spotlight with on/off switch on the lead then to the plug. Need to cut the lead and extend this to fit through the cast iron pipe ( between on/off switch and the light unit ). Cable is only two wires Blue/Brown no...
Builders broke ground today with the digger down the side of the house. They busted a lead water pipe which runs down the side of the house.
Houses are fed in bunches of 5 from the street. That means me and 4 other houses share the same stop tap.
Builders repaired the T joint and replaced...
Hello All
Noticed the existing bonding for the cold water supply is only 4mm. The supply pipe out of the ground is clearly a plastic pipe. It joins a brass stopcock under the kitchen sink cabinet and the rest of the plumbing in the house is in copper. I'm worried I need 10mm bonding and will...
Hi all, been called out to a job today where the customer says they are getting a tingle from the gas meter and some appliances. Its a TT system, got a ze of 48 ohms. Gas bonding is 10mm and is continuous. Dual rcd board with 3 RFC's on one side of the board. There's a L-N reverse when i go...
Hi all, looking for advice, based in the UK.
I have a 30m long garden with shed at bottom that I want to run an extension lead to on a permanent basis. Use is for power tools (drill, jigsaw) plus lamp in the winter so neither constant nor heavy usage.
Currently I run a single 40m reel...
