Hi
This maybe a daft question but I want to be 100% sure. Do fire rated recessed down lights require Insumescent covers? Or will a 200mm air gap surrounding the fitting suffice?
Thanks in advance

Soapy
Need some ideas please chaps. Ground workers have damaged a 12V cable running to a light - so I need to put a joint in to it. Its 12v DC so only 2 cores to worry about.
So far I've considered:
Wiska Shark - the 6A version
and
The TubeTee IP68 inline connector
Are there any others I...
I thought would try rated people as they were offering free membership, and having spent well over an hour on the phone to them I got transferred to 5 different people who frankly didn't inspire much confidence in me to deal with a simple issue (their website actually says free membership in my...
Hi
Have a customer who wants to put smart bulbs into tiltable downlights in his bathroom. I've not seen any GU10 tilt downlights that are suitably IP rated for a bathroom, have any of you got any suggestions? Must be a GU10 fitting as he wants to fit smart bulbs.
Thanks
I'm hoping for a bit of advice from the experts here.
Our electrician has fitted an IP20 rated downlight above the shower in our new bathroom. He says this is fine as the GU10 LED bulb is a sealed unit and therefore "won't explode."
I'm not convinced that it's entirely safe as I would expect...
Hello.
So I've learned a lot about dimmers on this last job. The customer wanted everything downstairs on dimmers and boy has it been a learning curve.
I've split a lighting circuit and the customer has asked for 2 x st64 led bulbs on pendants to be put on a dimmer. The problem is they're...
Hi all I am trying to get some new LED's such as the Elite / Aurora E8's etc.. from local wholesalers to fit into a top floor apartment which has been constructed with each floor and on top floor ( the apartment ) in the metal deck and poured concrete slab into it system, supplier reckons that...
hi
I've been asked to pick up a job where the previous builder went into liquidation and the property management company is asking me to complete the electrical works, relocate a fuseboard.
Everything the previous company has done is exceptionally neat but I'm concerned on the design front...
17 x JCC FGLED6 Tilt fire rated downlights for sale. Model number JC94481BN. Left over from a job, I can't return to wholesaler as they have gone bump! High quality down lights 10 year manufacturers warranty (5 year for commercial installations). These sell on-line for £39 each, I paid £32. I'd...
Hi,
Apologies if this isn't the correct place to ask this. I had some builders in who I asked to change my old 12v MR16 with transformers to 240v GU10 LED lamps which no longer needed the transformer.
I didn't think anything was wrong until I had an electrician come and take a look at a...
Can't seem to find the answer to this online, on the OSG table 8.1 it divulges that only switches and sockets allowed of SELV Under Zone 2 which much have a minimum degree of IPX4 protection and shaver supply units complying with BS EN 61558-2-5 if fixed where direct spray is unlikely.
Does...
I have 4 downlights in the bathroom above the shower all are MR11 - 12v 20w.
One is directly central above the shower cubicle and 3 are approx 150mm beyond the perimeter of the cubicle, which I assume these being in Zone 2. The ceiling is approx. 350mm above the top of the cubicle.
I want to...
One of my client has on his boat an old Wylex fuse box with fuse wire, like the one in that video.
It's used on his 12V DC system. I think that it's not safe, but wanted to check with yous first.
As explained on this page, AC fuses which are not DC rated should not be used on DC circuits. DC...
Just fitted four new fire rated down lights to be faced with this, made my day..............not! So two of the six have been fitted below joists which have obviously been hacked out by the previous sparks, give me strength.
Bit bored, so I thought I'd post this.
I see that Scholmore Group have just released a non fire rated down light (I know there're others); SCOLMORE GROUP - OVIA LIGHTING | Inceptor Pico, integrated LED downlight - https://www.scolmore.com/products/inceptor-pico/
It seems unusual to introduce...
Hi all. I want to buy something from the States. It comes with a plug which says 110v - 220v. Will this work safely in the UK with just an adaptor for the 3 pins? I'm used to getting gear that has a switch to switch voltage but this doesn't. Many thanks
I just need something clearing up as I have not done domestic wiring for a good few years now.
If I fit LED down lights that have no replaceable bulbs so can’t be over loaded, do I need to fit the in intumescent hoods for lights going into the loft or just some sort of device to keep the...
Hello,
We are going to fit tilt downlights in a vaulted ceiling. I am well aware that draughts can come through a tilt fitting which is seated in the roof space of a vaulted ceiling of an extension.
I'm looking for some advice on how to seal against this. We are using Auroa/Enlite LED fittings...
Hi Guys
Some help if possible please.
Recently (July) installed a Soft Start Control (Trip Class 20) to a 37Kw Mill Motor (Rated 74Amps) DO Delta
The motor gradually over a period of 8hours runs normally to start at 60+Amps but by the end of the day she pulls a steady 121Amps from each phase...
Hi
I've got a uni assigment which includes build an equivalent circuit.
The transformer is rated at 2.2kVA which I thought was the apparent power.
But if I calculate the apparent power by using Vp x Ip then I get 220VA.
To find the phase angle Im confused do I use the 2.2kVA or 220VA for the...
