Hi everyone
my questions is regarding a ring circuit wired in 2.5mm standard twin n earth with 32A MCB however my question is hypothetical if there are 2 laundry and 2 lets say tumblers so load is not suitable for the circuit and you want to upgrade but there is no space in consumer unit to...
Hi all I am about 2 years retired after being NICEIC registered for over 20 years.
An old customer just a little concerned about an EICR just been done on her property by someone else now with lots of N/A everywhere
main one being no end to end readings (R1R2) entered for the ring circuits
I...
Hello Sparkies
I want to add another socket in the through lounge. I currently have two sockets (one in each room) and want to add a third but not sure how to.
Lifting the floor boards revealed a 3 way junction box from CU to two sockets. Is it ok to wire from an existing socket to the new...
Was wondering. I haven't been to college for about 3 or 4 years now and I can't seem to remember what they said about doubling over conductors in a ring circuit.
So in a ring circuit using 2.5mm twin and earth cable, is it recommended that you double over the conductors before terminating them...
Hi,
I have a standard single ceiling light that I wish to convert to a set of three light fittings, physically right next to each other and controlled by the same switch.
What is the correct (and preferably easiest) way to connect this up?
Kind wishes - Patrick
What is your view about such an installation technique? Asked to finish extension wiring and the installer has snaked wire all over the floor in white flexi. They intend to put an island in and this could easily lead to damaged cables. The other wiring for lights etc. is abysmal like a massive...
I'm a trainee electrician and I was working with a qualified electrician extending a 32A ring circuit and we were using 2.5mm single conductors (CPC was 2.5mm aswell) going through PVC conduit and then going through steel trucking.
And to connect the old ring conductors with the new extended...
About to embark on wiring an extension and cursory examination threw up the above. Have not as yet poked inside. Anyone seen this arrangement before? Can I believe what my eyes seem to be saying to me?
Hello All
Possibly a silly question - can I add a 'spur' to a ring circuit at it's MCB in the CU, rather than cutting into the ring itself? I want to do this to add a power line adaptor to extend wifi coverage.
Many thanks.

Hi
I'm fitting a new kitchen and as the light circuit isn't that easy to get to I want to fit a spur off 2 different sockets. My thoughts were to run a spur from each socket and fit a fused switch to feed low voltage led under cabinet lighting. 3 leds under each side. would this be acceptable or...
Afternoon chaps, is there a guide anywhere on this forum to make a test board similar to what you would use in college?
I need to re-train myself, get some practice in testing circuits.
Any appreciated. Thanks.
Over the last few days I have been stuck indoors because of the rainy weather. To pass the time I cobbled together my simple idea for a FRC live conductor break detector, ie break in L or N. I also have a working demonstrator for detecting a break in the cpc but I will/may post that another...
Hi, I'm not an electrician but have worked as a mate and I'm studying in my own time - I know my limitations. I watch a lot of videos (John Ward and others) and have come across an issue I don't understand. An 80A 30mA RCCD has 4 Type B 32A MCBs hanging off it and the sparky () talks about...
Hi folks, I'm in the process of adding some more sockets into my "Socket" ring circuit. My plan was to open up the existing socket, cut 1 twin and earth higher up and add a socket there, leave the other twin and earth where it is then do a small ring of 4 sockets, starting at the existing socket...
I installed a kitchen ring recently. Went back to test after the builders had finished and found that the CPC is broken somewhere inaccessible, everything else tests normal. I’ve got continuity on live conductors, and even with the broken CPC, each socket is connected to the CPC and tests with...
First time poster go easy on me.
Got a call out to a job today, got told the RCD was tripping. Even when no appliances plugged in. And so it was intermittently about every 20 mins. Only two ring circuits on the RCD, on one of the rings im getting continuity across line and netural on both legs...
trying to find answers in the reg book, but is there anything to say you can't install say a larger ring circuit for a sub main? to reduce volt drop / cable size etc.
Normally you would obviously install a large enough cable, but would this be acceptable , whats our thoughts?
Hi all
I have a ring circuit with 13 sockets. 2.5 mm 3 core cable. My floor area is 60 sqm My question is what is the maximum wire length for a single ring circuit? I used 92 meters of wire for the whole ring circuit.
Also I only had a c type rcbo available at my local electrician. Will this...
