Hi. We just removed a broken washing machine and saw it and a dryer had been wired together to the same wall box. The appliance wires had been merged and wired in as if one appliance. Is it safe to repeat this with a new washer?
Hi,
I was renting recently in a unit. The floor of the shower was cracked and the water would run down through the floor boards instead of the drain. I was told by the property manager there was a dangerous situation under my unit. The shower water would run directly onto power wires as shown...
Just been to view a house that I'm thinking of buying and I looked at the fuse box there seems to be three or four different fuse boxes I don't know what this even means??
'Looks' a nightmare, it's a rental investment so before I put an offer in I was hoping someone knowledgeable could offer an...
As title suggests, I've removed what a T&E has been used for, so it's now just a live cable. I've terminated it and boxed it (for now), but this needs burying and skimming over.
I think the right way according to regs is to trace it back, make sure it's dead then pull the cable out of the wall...
So , I was just eating my toast and watching Sky News (very rockstar I know) and I saw a Gas Safe register advert saying you can look online at gassaferesgister to see if your builder / plumber is registered and qualified to do gas
Which got me thinking, when was the last time anyone saw a TV...
Hi all first post here so be gentle ?
So i've been asked to certify a mobile bar (made from a horse box) and i'm very cautious of this because of the PME issue.
My thinking though is to use a PEN fault detector, the kind now used for EV chargers, to make it safer for them to use anywhere as we...
Hi all.
I have a wire from a light switch that is on the outside of the wall.
I want to put the wire Inside the wall and move the light switch before I overboard it.
Whilst drilling the holes in the wall to push the wire through I've nicked the wire.
Nothing went bang and it didn't trip the...
What do you guys prefer to do if carrying out a ‘make safe job’ for example exposed conductors accessible to touch. Do you lock off (you may not be the person doing the work next) or do you disconnect the circuit and label what the problem is?
Hi all,
I'm a homeowner and purchased a TP-link HS200 smart switch. When I took it out, I noticed that it came with wires attached already, and but the wires are stranded aluminum instead of solid copper and has 16 AWG written on the plastic coating. Is this safe or allowed that it's not 14 AWG...
I have a Ring Doorbell which has no Chime, but which is trickle charged via a wall-mounted BG DIN Rail transformer in a Hagar casing which diverts power from a socket cable. Firstly I have a electric check coming up and I wanted to know if this was safe or is it likely to be picked up in the...
Second post on an EICR I did today (always a good sign!)
70s flat with earthed conduit and singles. 6mm runs from the CU to presumably where an old cooker switch was - at some point that was tiled over somehow and is now inaccessible - what emerges below the worktop is 2 x 2.5 Twin and Earth -...
While reading the IET articles there was one on the open PEN risk and now the DNOs are adding another step to "safe isolation" where they clamp the earth bond to check if there is diverted neutral current present before disconnecting anything related to that.
The youtube video for this:
TL;DR...
I was thinking of getting Chas registered and wanted to know if it's worthwhile or whether another one like constructionline is better? I would like to be able to work for the local authority and also for residential and commercial letting agents.
Not a big one, but it bloody hurt and scared the pants of me! If anyone reading the following knows why this happened I'm all ears.
I safely isolated a garage consumer unit, but didn't turn off the associated MCB in the house, so the tails to the unit were still live, ready to put in a new...
Hi, I hope I’ve posted this in the correct place. Please forgive me if I have not.
A little while ago I was drilling a bracket for my home alarm and hit an electrical cable. The cable in question runs from the fuse box to my cooker and hob.
My father made a temporary connection when it...
