Hi all hope everyone’s well.
Sorry this a long read but I really want to get my head around this… simplified questions at the bottom of the long read…
I’m struggling to understand it as there’s not many videos explaining it and lack of diagrams in GN3. I’ve been through bs7671 section 414 and...
Hi!
I have a led strip (12V) with an external cable (2*1mm) glued on the wall and it's not fancy at all..
Inside the wall I have 3*1,5mm cable with 220V
Can I put both cables together inside the wall?
Thanks
I'm working on a site in the UK where a joinery company will be installing bespoke vanity cabinets.
The cabinets will have MDF/mirrored doors with a demista (heated pad) laminated between the mirror and the MDF door.
The Demista is powered by a 24v SELV transformer, located behind a small panel...
Hi,
I hear the regs for burying cables don't apply to SELV cables anymore? Is that right? Are there any requirements for buried SELV cables now? Yellow tape, minimum depth, mechanical protection?
I'm shielding at home for 12 weeks and don't have access to my regs book otherwise ild check...
Hi, i'm currently doing my Level 3 design project and it's going to be tricky with the coronavirus and lack of contact with Tutor and other students.
Its the Hotel Swimming pool one
and I have to select luminaries for the cafe pool.
I haven't chosen my luminaries but I'm thinking to do it all...
Hi, I have a ceiling rose which doesn't have an earth wire and I want to connect a light fitting which requires an earth connection.
It's not possible to rewire the ceiling rose at the moment so I am considering the possibility of using a low voltage (12 - 85 volt DC) E27 led lamp connected to a...
I've recently purchased a SELV pullcord extractor fan for my bathroom. I checked and 12v are running through where the old fan was so an SELV should work perfectly.
I've wired it up as per this photo, but it doesn't work when I pull the cord. Could anyone help me understand why? The current is...
Hi All,
The separated extra low voltage system excludes any connections to the earth on the extra low voltage side on the basis that such a connection would import a potentially high voltage on a protective conductor should a fault an earth fault exist on the low voltage side. PELV then...
Hi, I am relatively new to testing and was just doing some research into it all as some time in the future may take my testing and inspecting exam, I just wanted to confirm this test exactly as i want to make sure I'm understanding it correctly, I know nowadays this part of the test is quite...
As I understand it, they should have their own dedicated RCD
After asking Mr Google I found this reference fro 17th Edition 2010Low Voltage Airflow Fans – Be Extra Safe
The Airflow range of SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage) fans fully comply with the current IEE wiring regulations 17th edition...
A tutor went off on a tangent today and said that he wouldn't be surprised if in the future all lighting circuits in an electrical installation will be extra low voltage. (Connected to a transformer that'll maybe fit on the DIN rail of a CU?) I was just wondering what everyones opinion is...
Just a quick question: would a circuit run from a computer power supply (this type: http://www.amazon.co.uk/tag/atx%20power%20supply/products ) FELV, PELV, or SELV?
Thanks!
Hi All,
I live in a block of cottages, where the same landlord owns the whole block.
There is one tv ariel on the top of my block.
The coax feed is brought into my home, where l suspect that there is a tv booster (somewhere not accessible, as my loft is impossible to get into. I can only just...
Firstly if this thread is in the wrong place, please accept my apologies.
I was looking for some feedback from electricians on something which has been quite actively discussed in another forum I frequent. From a company called 'OnSolar' there is an image of what appears to be a BS546 style...
Hi guys, at a job tomorrow and looking through the spec. Bathroom is to have 12v SELV downlighters (not sure why). What cable is best to use for the run between trannies and lights, i.e. the 12v parts of the circuit? It's been a while since I've had to deal with these, as I don't recommend...
Hi,
I need to change an existing bathroom fan to an selv version.
The easiest place to mount the transformer is in the drywall cavity, adjacent to the existing switch.
The cavity is 50mm thick, with space around it, but obviously isn't ventilated.
Is it safe to mount a transformer there...
Something is confusing me somewhat: Can someone, in idiot terms :13:, please explain what tests are required on a SELV circuit. For example, a downlighter in a kitchen with a SELV transformer. It is something that I cannot get my head around. What connections are made on the circuit and...
My 17th edition exam prep software raised the question:
Which of the following energy sources is not suitable for a SELV supply?
I found the (auto transformer) answer by multiple guess and then tried googling videos on "auto transformer" but just learned about a friend of Optimus Prime. %$*...
Hi Chaps
I know this has been covered a few times and I have read all the posts, but for some reason the more I read the more confused I am getting! GRRR
Could someone please explain to me in Laymans terms how to test a SELV circuit, I mean break it down to the bare minumum. IE where you put...
