Hi All,
I live in a block of cottages, where the same landlord owns the whole block.
There is one tv ariel on the top of my block.
The coax feed is brought into my home, where l suspect that there is a tv booster (somewhere not accessible, as my loft is impossible to get into. I can only just...
I've been asked to install Zehui Cool White 3 X 3W Led Underwater Spot Light 12V 9W. I'm a bit concerned, firstly, it has a very short lead for an underwater light (200mm), what sort of connector should I use? Secondly, it has a cpc within the flex but there is no continuity between the cpc and...
Hi All
Does anyone know of a SELV lighting transformer with 1 mains input (obviously) and upto 8 outputs with capability of upto 40W on each output. ..I know its a strange question and its a long story why i could do with one
cheers
Can some one quickly tell me how I can wire a extra low voltage extractor fan, I know it needs a fan, fan isolator, and a transformer but how will the wiring go to each of these. Someone's already done the wiring but its not marked and not making sense so I need to learn how it's wired normally...
Hi guys, at a job tomorrow and looking through the spec. Bathroom is to have 12v SELV downlighters (not sure why). What cable is best to use for the run between trannies and lights, i.e. the 12v parts of the circuit? It's been a while since I've had to deal with these, as I don't recommend...
Hi,
I need to change an existing bathroom fan to an selv version.
The easiest place to mount the transformer is in the drywall cavity, adjacent to the existing switch.
The cavity is 50mm thick, with space around it, but obviously isn't ventilated.
Is it safe to mount a transformer there...
Something is confusing me somewhat: Can someone, in idiot terms :13:, please explain what tests are required on a SELV circuit. For example, a downlighter in a kitchen with a SELV transformer. It is something that I cannot get my head around. What connections are made on the circuit and...

Hi Chaps
I know this has been covered a few times and I have read all the posts, but for some reason the more I read the more confused I am getting! GRRR
Could someone please explain to me in Laymans terms how to test a SELV circuit, I mean break it down to the bare minumum. IE where you put...
I've recently installed a SELV transformer (original one was removed by a French electrician 3months ago!). Having connected the 230v supply to the 'pri' end, I haven't got any output voltage (looking for 11.5v DC). I took it back to my supplier & got a replacement but it too is showing no...
Hi All
I've done my C&G2382 and now I'm studying for 2392.
I was mucking about at home with various tests and came across this and I'm a bit stumped.
How do you do an insulation test on the ELV downlights? Is there a way that you don't just read the resistance of the transformer?
Hope you...

It is planned to install a central 24V SELV supply in a domestic residence, e.g. to power LEDs.
According to my reading, BS 7671:2008 chapter 414.4.1 (ii) requirements for protective separation between a SELV and 230V circuits offer the following options
a) double insulation -or-
b) reinforced...

Can someone please recommend a book or website which will give me a really good detailed description of the differences between these, how they work and their applications.
Been working hard on my theory before doing the 2382, but this is one area which is causing me some confusion!
Thanks!
Correct me if I am wrong but if we are to test a SELV transformer do we:
1. Join conductors of low voltage side of transformer together.
2. Join conductors of primary side of transformer together.
3. Test between these at a voltage of 500V look for minimum reading of 1 MOhm.
4. Test between...
I'm trying to understand my options when it comes to protecting ELV circuits, in particular control/signalling/communications type.
As I understand it there are three methods: SELV, PELV and FELV. I know that sometimes SELV is required due to the location. PELV seems to be a combination of...
Hi can anyone give me any advice on how to test a lighting radial with selv in them do i have to remove the transformer been told it could blow it if i carry out the normal test. Only thing is i cant get to it its under a wooden floor:confused:

Hi to all,
I have a 2391 question i am getting a little confused?
question a test to verify seperation between SELV circuit and BANDII circuit state the
a) test voltage to be applied
b) Two tests to be carried out
please can someone clue me up is it
a) 500v
b) insulation resistance...
