hi
Is there a requirement for First Aid safety signs | electric shock procedures to be positioned near a distribution board. I have been to a remote pumping station and there are no safety signs anywhere. Would you put this down as a C3?
thanks
Hi guys and girls
Have any of you got a way of fitting a door contact on a double glazed PVC door as because of the door edge shaped profile I am struggling to find a way that looks good.
Thanks
what is meant by the term "basic protection" In relationship to electric shock ? a) contact with parts or conductors that are live under fault conditions. b) contact with parts or conductors that are not intended to be live unless there is a fault. c) contact with parts or conductors that are...

Im getting new carpets fitted throughout the my flat and I had a couple of floor boards that are warped, so I decided to change them. I started to take up the floor boards on the landing of the hallway. I noticed 3 30A junction boxes feeding the ring consisting of 6 double sockets and 1 spur. 2...
Hi I thought it would be interesting to hear about situations that have happenned to different people in the electrical industry and would be a wake up call for perhaps those who are inexperienced or have not had a shock.
My first was when i was a second year apprentice i managed to go two...
We have come across a potential difference off 17 volts between a hand rail and a lampost, the building is an old one and relys alot on metal work for earth paths, the only way to rid if the potential is to bond the handrail. Client isn't happy with this due the decrotive level within the area...
i know we do but shouldnt get lil tingles where we getcomplacent or it gets late, but if you held onto tails at the board i understand you wont be able to let go so how long will it take before that took your life ? seeinghow theres no protection ? regards
No matter how careful you are and even if you follow all the protocols , if you have been in this game long enough you will have taken at least one lick or some , substantially more than one ?
So in the interests of highlighting some possible hidden dangers that you just would not think of ...
a friend of mine asked me to have a look at her supply as it keeps tripping, after looking in the consumer unit i was surprised to discover that she has upstairs and downstairs ring on a 32A breaker, she has a big house and i counted 16 double sockets up and 2 spurs, 24 double sockets down with...

Priced a little job a week or two ago. New kitchen going in, so wanted a few sockets moving around and a few adding for new fridge, diswasher etc. No RCD protection so circuit need an RCBO (Hager).

I went to a job the other day to replace a security light. When i touched it i got a shock. After isolating the fitting, i removed the cover to have a look at the connections and all were securely in place. There was no water ingress inside the fitting either. I then removed the flex, turned on...
"Yea they kept him in overnight strapped upto CCG , they dischaged him but he has got a heart monitor strapped to him, the severity of this really surprised me considering the amount of belts we get over the year ( self inflicted )"
Pinched this from Bugsy, post 13 in thread "nearly killed"...
I was working on upgrading a council property. I disconnected the incoming supply, removed the cut-out fuse (I am authorised to do that), removed the tails from the meter, conducted a safe isolation procedure. I was satisfied the supply to the property was dead and work commenced to replace the...
Bit of an odd one here. One of my hobbies is ww2 living history, the group i belong to has an original search light and generator.
Running voltage of the quipment is around 110VDC and a start current of around 350A that settles to 150A when the arc is stable.
I have been asked to look at...
