I'm trying to find a way of energy logging a home to help plan a battery installation. Ideally tracking import by hour and displaying some information and graphs on an online platform like the myenergi app allows when you have some of their equipment. Thought I could buy just a harvi and CT...
Hi
Total novi e but have wired multiple light switches previously and survived :)
I've bought a nice WiFi enabled dinner switch for a new LED light - the wiring manual says it requires a neutral to be able to function- as you will see from my photo the current switch has COM and L1 and all...
We are refurbishing an empty commercial building at the minute and I don't do commercial stuff day in day out so not entirely clued up on everything. The building is one property, central entrance hall with two big offices left and right from the hall way, the hallway though has two meter...
Hello and good morning all.
I am putting in a first fix on a small extension. It will have its own fuse board coming from the main house.
I plan to put in 5 electrical radiators. (2x1000w, 2 x 600w and a towel heater)
I am going to hardwire them on their own ring with a fuse on each .
Just...
Hi
I have three phase installed recently to increase generation.
DNO approved the extra 2 solar arrays so we have 3.68KW FIT on one phase and 8KW on phase 2 with 6KW on phase 3
We are coming to the end of the install and my question is as the DNO have limited export to zero how do we share the...
I have a single phase stainless steel pasteuriser that has two control boxes attached to it. One box houses the control for the electronics and motor for the mixing paddle. The other box houses the supply to the water jacket immersion heater. The immersion heater is 1.5kw single phase and is...
Has anyone used one of these KT1700 - Kewtech - https://www.kewtechcorp.com/products/kt1700/
and are they approved in place of the usual 2 pole testers?
When there exists a single-phase transfer switch within a 3-phase distribution system, is it necessary for both feeds to the transfer switch to be connected to the same phase on the two sources?
Take for example the image below, note that the transfer switches are connected to the power sources...
Hi all,
I am an experienced DIY electrician and I just wanted to ask a quick question about something since I am new to this forum, if it hasn’t really been answered anywhere else.
The question I have in mind is how come most electrical manufacturers still make single gang (25, 35mm etc) back...
Have a single plug socket which has been working fine for years. It is behind a unit so nothing has hit it. I looked at the socket and can seen no discolouration or anything on the outside to indicate a problem. Took the socket out of the wall and again nothing to indicate a problem and all the...
Hi everyone,
We have bought 2 new low-hanging light fittings from Ikea to go side by side above dining room table to replace the single pendant that's there now.
I enjoy DIY and learning to do any jobs i can by myself so just wondered how i would go about fitting these to replace the single...
Hi Forum Members
I have a 4 pole single phase 240VAC 315 watt motor from a central heating heating system that I think is bad.
It's the room fan inside the squirrel cage that sucks / pushes the air past the heat exchanger
It seems to run but very slowly. I think it's bad.
That said, there is...
I replaced a single pole to exterior lights with a smart switch. Next to it is a 3way to my foyer light. The foyer and the smart switch to exterior works. However I seem to have killed the power to an exterior outlet. In order to get the switch to work, I had connect the red switch pigtail...
Hi Everyone,
Has anyone ever encountered an undersized start capacitor (from manufacture) for a single phase pump???
I would like to integrate some sort of soft starter for my submersible pump which pumps rain water to a tank. Is this possible??....
Thanks,

Hi All,
From what I understand, working out the design current - Ib for single phase is quite easy (max appliance power/voltage).
For three phase, do I take the max power, divide by 3 then divide by 230 to get the Ib?
(We definitely use 230V for everything right?)
Now for voltage drop, We...
It's coming out anyway so it's a rhetorical question.
What do you you all think of this?
Bits of wire used to bridge the bus bars and don't single phase consumer units need a linked switched line and neutral?
