I'm after a bit of guidance here! Being an old fashioned type of chap I always ask what size oven is being installed to get the calcs right, however I recently carried out a Periodic on a property to be let and found that the oven was fitted with a 13A plug and plugged into to the kitchen ring...
i have been asked to install a garage unit in a outbuilding they wanted a couple of sockets and lights and i think i allowed about 20A total output for design current. what size cable do you think bearing in mind its a 90 meter run in a trench from house to out building.i allowed 16mm does this...
Need a cable to run approx 100m from incoming supply to a new build house, cable will be buried under ground what is the mimimum size cable that could be used to make it comply with the regs? Copper/aluminium? Thanks
i'm after a little help with cable sizing. I have tried reading my IEE design guide, and still struggling to get to grips with the correct proceedure to follow for sizing cables. I have always struggled a little with this, but thus far my knowledge goes (albeit shaky)...

I have in the past mounted the inverter in the loft space but a customer wants it located in the garage. It's approxa 20m run to the array. Would you be inclined to put a dc isolator in the loft space for local isolation? The cable run for 1 string would be 4mm would this be correct? If anyone...
Hi everyone,
I've just had my electrician run the AC Cable from the inverter to the consumer unit but i think he has used the wrong cable size.
Background Information- Its a 4 kW (Sharp NDR-250A5) system split over two strings running to a SMA SB 3800 inverter on a farm outbuilding. From here...
Hi all, I have been asked to run a 3 phase supply from a nearby service head to a new DB servicing a solar array to be fitted on a riding school roof.
This is to take the electricity generated back to the grid. A proper MCS contractor is doing the array.
The problem I have is that the array is...
My brain is overheating trying to make sense of PV panel parameters and calculate the CSA of a DC feed cable to the inverter.
For my 16 HL Solar 250W panels, the spec is:
Imp 4.94A
Vmp 50.6V
Isc 5.35A
Voc 60.5V
Two strings of eight panels in parallel.
Therefore:
Total current at max power =...
Hi Guys, Im newly accredited and have got a pretty strange install to quote already.
The panels and inverters are fine but it's the cable size i’m getting different results with and none of them definite.
The array will be in a field on a frame, the house has a split supply (2 phase??) And the...
Hi all
Got a 10 k.w installation with 40 lattitude 240 watt prismatic panels on a south facing roof, 35 degree pitch. Can anyone reccomend an inverter to suit this?
Thanks in advance
I'm planning to install one set hydro generator to supply to my 3p, 7.5Hp 415 volt motor. I've a replica stream at my pond which is i found suitable to install the paddle wheel at the stream. The generator will be powered by paddle wheel connected via belting. I got two motor with same spec. One...
DNO has upgraded service fuse from 30a to 60a, they do not want to go any higher due to the main feed cable.
CU is 4-5m away, connected via switchfuse. Should 16mm or 2mm tails be used, OSG recommend 25mm but seems to assume a 100a supply.
With a 60a head, what size switchfuse should be used...
Hi guys, i have a question what size of bonding conductor is required for A shed that has a 63 amp 3 phase( 25mm2 swa) supply going to it. It is supplied from the main building that has a 400 amp TN-S 400mm supply . hust want to see if you have the same answer
Hi al,
Just need a bit of a refresh regarding the sizing of the earth cable for a domestic installation with an earth spike. I believe 10mm for the gas & water bonding, but seem to recall that the main earth cable can also be 10mm?
Can anyone help me out with sizing two cable please? I dont have access to any of my reg's.
Cable is in a duct,
210 meters long,
3phase machines @ 225KW and a 3phase machine @ 500KW.
Cheers
What size breaker do I need at my db in the house, which feeds an outside building on 6mm armoured. The outside building has a db with 40, 32 and 6 amp breakers for cooker, ring and lights.
Need a little advice on this one.
I rewired a house last year, all sorted and signed off, but I was told I would be coming back as there was a new extension planned. Unfortunately the building contractor would only use their own electrician so I lost the extension work, no worries. The customer...
Could someone please explain why the sizing factor is changing when you try to design a system using softwares (such as PVSOL)?
what factors the sizing factor depends on?
Thanks.
