I am refurbishing a Colchester Student Mk2 centre lathe for my model engineering workshop. The wiring to the two speed motor incorporated a separate safety controller box that monitored safety cut out switches on the lathe. The safety switches are typically on the chip guard, emergency stop, end...
I have had to replace the overload relay on a three phase DOL starter today. The coil to the contactor will now not energise unless I push the start button in along with the the stop button.
As I understand it start button makes the circuit / energises the coil (normal open) stop button...

I am building a test rig so i can show a friend who may do an electrical course at college how to test/fault find on some final circuits including a motor circuit, i have salvaged a motor out of a friends old washing machine and fixed a terminal box to it with all the connections coming in to...
This is a question that is asked to death so I thought I'd put together a little list of the basics you will need to get started! Obviously the type of work and location are both factors in the tools you will need so please only use this as a guide rather than a definitive list of what you will...
This photo is a DOL starter with a start and stop button on front of enclosure, I'm looking this contactor to pull in via a 24 hour time clock from 8.00-9.00am without removing the start stop facility but when the timer triggers contactor I also want the stop button to be valid.
Thanks in advance

Hi everyone. Our ancient Bradbury car ramp died a few weeks ago. Eventually after replacing the 3 phase IMO contacter and thermal my sparky concluded the motor was fried. Faced with the expense of changing the motor I decided to go down the 1 phase 2pole cap start cap run solution supplied...
We have been involved in the installation of a dust extraction system which is powered by a fairly large 3 phase motor (18A).
The motor was pre-wire to a control box on the side of the extraction housing and the star/delta starter was also pre-wired. The only wiring that was required was the 2...
I've recently started an apprenticeship and I'm looking to buying some on-site quality tools and equipment. Any recommendations for brands or any specific items?
Thanks.
As part of my oral exam (oo err!) for my marine engineer license we get asked electrical questions. One such question that's been asked is " What would happen if a Star Delta Starter didn't change over and continued to run in Star and what would you do if it had to keep running in star?" Ie part...
4ft old style starter/ballast type fitting which when powered does nothing at all (not a flicker) but trips the 6A/30mA RCBO after maybe 3-5 secs. I didnt have my clamp meter with me when i went to see the fault but assume due to the time delay that its the overcurrent part of the RCBO rather...

Wired up a starter today, 2 DOL contactors with 415V coils fed through two Telemec Motor Overload units sitting side by side in an enclosure.

Hi,
I've installed two LED GU10 lamps in a customers bathroom. They're on the same circuit as two fluorescent energy saving lamps already installed in the bathroom. So far, three LED lamps have blow (I replaced the first one, and now two have blown).
Could the motors in the fluorescent lamps...
Another quiet newby prompted into action by Dan. Thirty years in HM Forces as a professional engineer, latterly much of it driving a desk, only served to heighten my passion to make use of my practical aptitude. Successfully completed the quals last year (2391, 17th Edition, PAT & the last...
Hello electrical sparkly people!
Can anyone tell me I can charge two 12V leisure batteries from my starter battery? The leisure batteries are connected in series to charge a 24V 3000W (6000W peak) inverter. To confuse things, I also have two 12V batteries which came with my Ford Transit Jumbo...
