I've been working my way through some EICR remedials in a theatre and one of them is to sort out a slightly high Zs on a submain.
Thankfully whoever installed it put the banjo on the gland and even put a bolt through it, they just didn't add a flylead, so its going to be relatively easy to fix...
Hi all.
Could I ask some advice please regarding SWA banjo fly lead sizing.
Can anyone explain what sizing or how you size the required earth size when:
A) The armourings are not used as cpc
B) When armourings are used as CPC?
I’m still learning and can’t find anything explain I guess this...
Hi, looking for some advice,
6mm swa allready installed to a hot tub
Client now wants additions and my calcs say the original swa is allready too small.
26a but its120m run, im advising 16mm 2core.
However the swa installed is 4 core so was thinking of doubling cores together to save on time/...
I have a TPN board that will feed 8-10 sub boards. The loads on each board are negligible 5-10 amps peak but mostly 1-2 amps.
The distribution circuits will be fed in 6mm mostly for VD reasons but also to allow some selectivity on the OCPD(MCB) my dilemma is SWA or T&E.
The route is 98% tray...
Upgrading the Hot Tub to a Swim Spa, current power for the hot tub is 6mm 3x core swa to a 40amp mcb and 40amp rotary isolator. Cable is clipped to wall not buried.
The swim spa we want has the following rating required: (copied from the spec page)
1x35A 230V/50Hz min.
Heater is 3kw.
Cable run...
All of the work described below will be completed by a qualified electrician, I am just curious and using the info for planning!!
I am planning a garage conversion. While I was bringing across services for water/gas etc I laid a 16mm2 3 core SWA between the main dwelling and the garage (all at...
Having a bit of a brain freeze moment.
I have a 2-core SWA cable running to an outbuilding. The sheath is used to earth this cable back to the consumer unit in the house which is TNC-S, while the outbuilding has its own earth electrode (ie it's TT) protecting its Consumer Unit. That's to say...
It is just convenient to cable tie the CAT6 cable onto the SWA. Does anyone think I would get significant signal noise? I have seen wads of cat5 normal lashed over suspended ceilings and fluors and never heard of anyone complaining about signal loss and that is over hundrends of units...
I have had a kitchen extesion built on an old property (c.1810), which has an unusual consumer unit situation. Part of the property has only a first floor, with a driveway underneath (originally to get carts under for deliveries), with the consumer unit, meter, gas meter etc in a cupboard on the...
Hi all.
Been asked to join a couple of 25mm 4 core Swa's underground so am using a couple of torpedo's.
This is probably a basic question but one of the cables has a inner lead sheath so you have.

Lead Sheath

I plan on using a fused spur to route power to a workshop using 10mm2 SWA off a regular 13Amp ring main socket.
The workshop will have its own dedicated CU fitted.
My question is, what size fused spur switch should I be using? Is a 13A sufficient?
Hi all,
I’ve been given 3 flats to re wire and i was looking for advice on the correct size Swa to use.
There will be 3 meters installed by the DNO, 1 for each flat. My plan was to have switch fuses after the metres and then run Swa to the DB’s. The longest run for the furthest DB is around 20...
Hi all,
I am looking to replace an existing CU (ground floor) and put it in a new position (first floor).
The existing CU is on the inside of a wall to the meter cabinet (which is on the other - external - side of the wall).
The existing cabling between these two devices is not SWA/armoured...
I'm running SWA up the outside of a house and am wondering how best to make it off.
It's going to come from the loft area, to the outside, down the house and then into a brick lean-to where it will be made off on some trunking after 500mm of run inside the lean-to.
Since the armouring needs to...
Hi,
I've been digging and have nicked the outer sheathing of a 2.5mm SWA cable.
The protection and conductors are intact.
Would it please be possible to advise on how I can repair the outer sheathing by using heat shrink or any other suitable bonding agent to ensure no moisture flows in over...
I have a slightly odd requirement that means I am wanting to route a 3 core 4mm SWA cable (14mm outside diameter) from outside through a cavity wall into a garage to the isolator just inside. The cable is actually carrying DC feed from a small solar ground installation.
How should I shield the...
Hi everyone, i might be having to run new meter tails from meter box to consumer unit which is just under 3m run, i have used 25mm 3 core before and its hard to work with especially through joists. I was thinking about 2 core 25mm swa and a seperate 16mm earth to make life easier but then came...
I have a metal Hager sub CU, 10 way RCBO, installed in 2018 in an accessible attic space, this sub-CU being fed from another unit close to the meter. The two are connected with 10mm 3 core SWA: line, neutral and CPC. At the end close to the meter, the armoured cable metal sheathing is earthed...
