Anyone getting involved in using retro style lighting switches, the ones fitted on wooden boxes, or blocks, if so are the boxes/blocks pre drilled or is this something you have to do yourselves? just wondering, nothing to do on a Friday Afternoon.
Good afternoon
As my username implies I'm a mad collecter
I collect vintage electric items such as
Sockets, Switches, joint boxes and fuseboxes, especially from the 1930s and 1940s
Please could any electrician help me
Instead of throwing them into a skip, please could you throw them in my...
I have an upstairs hall light can be switched on/off from both upstairs switch and downstairs switch.....the downstairs light can only be switched on/off from the downstairs switch....the upstairs switch does nothing.
When I look inside the upstair switch it's not connected....I have a diagram...
I attempted to replace three single pole light switches today, in a triple box. I’ve never seen switches wired like this before and I’m wondering if it’s safe. (I also have no idea how this could possibly work, but it’s been this way for 14 years, so it must). They had a single ground wire that...
Doing some work on a 17th century house and need to put some switches in for recessed downlights, can’t get switch drops due to original panelling etc, can anyone recommend some wireless kinetic switches?
The house renovation is almost done but some of the original 1980's switched have remained and I wanted to swap them out for the MK ones in the new parts of the house. Simple job eh?
So I bought some 2 way switches for the hall (4 switches control the same set of lights); for the snug (2...
Hi,
First post so go easy on me. Looking for some advice on kitchen appliances (washing machine, dishwasher and fridge/freezer) because I have to move some of them in a kitchen redesign happening soon.
At the moment, I have above bench fused switches for each appliance, then below bench...
Hi
Just made up this drawing of a way to wire and test emergency lighting and keep the non-emergency lighting lit.
Has others wired it this way and would it be 18th edition compatible?
I've attached the drawing
Hi, i have a kitchen to fit and the customer has asked me to fit 11 downlights.
it must have been a kitchen then dining room in the past as they currently they have a one way switch at either door which controls seperate pendant lights.
im not to good on two way lighting so wondering if anyone...
I have used the kinetic wireless on/off switches and I've been pleased with the results. A customer requires a kinetic dimmer switch, and I'm unsure how a dimmer switch would work being there is no power going to it. I get the principle of the standard on/off switch, but I can't work out how...
Hi. First post here.
Background
I have a relative who is an electrician and is about to re-wire our home as a favour. I said that I will order and pay for all of the parts - so that they are here in on-site when he arrives to begin work.
I have already ordered a Hager consumer unit; the 10...
Hi all, hope everyone's making the most of the festive period!! ?
Got a job where the client has requested a radio frequency switch, as always they have just had entire room plastered, then decided they want an extra light. And they do not want any damage done to the walls at all ( I know...
Greetings - I am seeking guidance on consolidating two sets of 3 way switches (4 switches) that control two separate lights. The builder/homeowner decided to install a switch at the top of the stairway and midway that controls a light at the top of the stairs. There's also a switch at the bottom...
Evening all
Just pricing a new build and they want a 4gang grid for the kitchen appliances. Am I correct in saying that if the switches are kept on the ring main and if I spur off each switch for an appliance and use an unswitched fuse spur unit behind each appliance that would be ok?
It’s the...
Firstly i'll point out that i'm the property owner and the installer of the majority of the electrical fittings in the building, including Main & E7 DB's.
now the history lesson... sorry, but it is relevant
property is 230 years old, I have owned it for 42 years. it was semi derelict at...
Evening, is there a standard gap to put between clusters of sockets and light switches? Eg if you have a couple of double sockets, a tv socket and a lamp socket grouped together, how much of a gap would you put between them.
Also if you had few light switches grouped together what sort of gap...
Hi all, just a simple one, when fitting shaver sockets, (on lighting circuit) do you connect them via a switched fused spur, and if so why? (assuming mi's dont ask for one)
Is it possible to energize a contactor/relay from multiple toggle (not momentary) switches in a way similar to 3-way switches?
If so, what components and setup would do that?
The purpose is to control lighting from several sources and the reason for not using simple 3-way switches is that the...
I have a room that have 6 recessed lights which are each controlled by their own toggle switch. I would like to condense down from 6 switches Down to 2. 1 have two 3 gang boxes with 3 switches each. What is the best way to do this?
Hi, took off a light switch, saw something funny, stopped. Turns out it's AIB... brown asbetos, confirmed by asbetos chaps. It's a house built in 1968. Looked in other sockets and switches, can't see any there, alot are cemented in. These switches with the AIB are both on the joining wall of a...
