...and why would I want to do that ?
Well, I'm faced with a real botch job of a consumer unit. Essentially this is a "new" consumer unit only put in a couple of years ago by a friend of the clients family who was apparently an electrician. However the unit they bought (a Niglon) had the main...
Hi, gone to look at a board change job, it’s an old re-wirable fuse box less than 3m away from DNO and ran in 16mm tails, 10mm earth and no bonding to the incoming gas pipe and customer has no idea where the water comes in as the house has no stop cock. I will be putting a dual split rcd 100a...
16mm meter tail cable has a double layer of insulation. What do all think of removing the outer layer of insulation, to make it flexible, when the cable is being run entirely in plastic trunking.
Hello all
Just some input needed
I have 16mm meter tails & earth looks undersized coming unto the board also. I want the consumer unit changed, I understand that the tails need to be 25mm & earth 10mm I spoke with my electricity supplier who is going to get the technical department to call...
Looking for some help with this one. Had a call to an apartment today, reporting a loss of power. Got to the job and sure enough nothing on the incoming tails. Went to the meter cupboard where we have a 3 phase incomer, going to banks of BS5419 100a isolators, then to the meter, then to a DP...
During an EICR i have found from the ryefield to each cut out wired in 25mm tails .
one of which is used a CNE conductor which is then split in the cut out housing to form a usual PME supply TNC-S.
i guess this was done by DNO or BNO .
is this safe and acceptable ?
Hi
I don't know if I should ask it here or the main electricians forum. It's about CU change and the work around it and the CU change will be done by a proper registered electrician.
I will try to upload the pictures so you can see what I am talking about. I took two quotations. One just ask...
Hi all,
Hope you are all well and all is good.
Was just wondering which tails you guys use to go from a Henley block to a Garo / Matt-e EV unit. I'm fed up of fighting with them, are there any super flexible ones and what size do you tend to use?
Also which cable glands do you find the...
Hi everyone,
Bought some Flexi meter tailes from a supplier today , Am I going crazy or that I marked up incorrect . The Flexi tiles I’m used to has 19 strands of copper or similar, opposed to the normal six or seven.
The ones I’ve got today, Looked like finally stranded wire, at least 200...
Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing well.
Got a job starting next week for a rewire of a studio flat, currently they have 10 mm T&E as metre tails , So definitely got to be an upgrade.
The existing meter box is situated outside ( under cover ) the bathroom wall , On the right hand side of the...
Hi Guys
Just some advice required. I understand meter tails ideally at 3m from meter but is it possible to have meter tails 10-15m from the meter?
Came across a job where there's no real option but to have the consumer unit 10-15m from meter cut out.
If it is possible is additional...
What is the size of these meter tails? Are L&N going to the meter 32mm or 25mm and coming out are 25mm or 16mm? Permitiers are roughly 40mm of larger one and 35mm of smaller one. Thanks for your help ?
Hiya.
I suspect I already know the answer to this but I would welcome any opinion from anyone who's tried it...
Moving a domestic consumer unit 2M up a wall. Ideally I don't want to use trunking. Debating whether I could get away with 25mm SWA chased into the wall but I don't recall using 25mm...
During a recent EICR I have found 10 mm supply to the flat
This is fed from a Locked ryefield DB though a meter then a double pole 100 amp
Isolator , the outlet from the isolator is the 10mm 3 core possibly hightuff cable
This is over sleeved into the isolator.
My question is would the...
Hi
Has anybody ever found where this "rule has come from"? In the NAPIT codebreakers book it quotes "ESQCR regs" but it is not actually written in there. If it is a DNO rule then it comes under their regs (ESQCR), but as I said, it is not in there....
Hi all I have a few questions about that video.
1. I don't understand why there are two isolators on the tails between the meter and the CU. One is fused and one isn't, so what's the point in the one that isn't?
2. Why would this 'require RCD protection' like the guy in the video says? I...
Evening All,
I attended a job today to disconnect an Alarm System at a ground floor flat. On taking the consumer unit front off, discovered the incoming neutral tail to be 11 x 1.5mm single core cables which needless to say aren't all tight and secure in terminals. The incoming line looks to be...
A quick question regarding tails and the 3m length.
I need to move a consumer unit, however it will be around 5m from the DNO cutout. Is it acceptable to install a REC2 isolator at the meter cabinet, 3m tail length to an accessible position and then a fused main switch, followed by around 2m of...
Been asked to price CU change but i am concern about tails between cut out and meter.
I'ts top floor maisonette and main cut out is in the cupboard downstairs by the front door. From there cloth covered tails run in metal conduit(which is used as main earth) approx 10 meters to the cupboard in...
