I just wondered if anyone had any tips for testing an irritating design.
It's a large self-storage facility, several RCBO protected lighting circuits serving two floors, no light switches anywhere, just PIRs on radial circuits controlling about 4 lights each and there's about 30 such setups...
One of my customers managed to fry the rj45 socket on a Lorex (cheap!) brand ip camera. No idea how, but the pins are cooked.
He had purchased a new socket but needed someone else to repair. It’s an rj45 with a standard power jack on the side.
Of course, the colours are all different.. so...
Just wondering if someone could help provide an explanation as to why this might be the case when testing an RCBO. Testing the RCBO at the DB recorded a value of >300ms (test probes connected N&L load side, and E bar), yet when running the same test at a socket-outlet of the same RCBO tripped at...
Hi. The question is..... can saturated ground affect earth resistivity testing equipment?
Some days there's an unacceptable earth reading, another day it'll be perfect. The only variable seems to be the weather - ie very wet.
I've asked northern powergrid to convert to a PME system but they say...
Hi all,
Been a while since I have been on here. I have been on an apprenticeship the last 3 years training in the BMS world. Taking that into account, I have not done any testing for the last 3 years so please be gentle with the below.i feel very rusty.
My neighbour has asked for my help with...
Hello all, I hope you're all keeping well.
I have a question regarding insulation resistance testing.
Whether doing a single circuit IR test or a global IR on an entire installation, I usually try to remove all loads, eg lamps, neons etc, but obviously this isn't always possible. So I...
Hi
As some of you will know . I'm studying level 2.
I have the onsite guide. But does anyone know any books I can buy to help me understand testing etc better.
Anything that will aid my learning.
Thanks for any input.
Yes, we all know it is In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment now...
We are thinking of sending our technician on a course to get some formal accreditation in this. We have a Seaward 100 (that our now-retired technician used at our previous place), and they can work their way...
Seeking advice, we have been replacing extractor fans for a local council and was originally told no ‘like for like’ replacement works needs a minor works certificate.
Came into the office today to find they now want minor works certificates for about 250 fans we replaced.
Now normally if...
Hi Guys, looking at doing Initial and Periodic inspecting and testing. Looking between the CandG and EAL Just wondering if I can ask peoples opinion on both courses who have done them recently? How did they find them, does anyone recommend one over the other or any other input would be great. As...

Hi All
DALI lighting system distributes circuit via LCM's, for electrical test, do you stop at the LCM or light point.
how do you carry out insulation test without damaging DALI equipment
Quick question. I am new to electrical installation so please be patient. You guys are great at answers. Re Insulation Testing. Why if I test using 250vdc to a get a lower reading of 105meg but infinity at 500vdc. Ring circuit and everything disconnected (I hope 😂). Also meter warna of 40v for a...
I have got these questions on 2391-52 inspection and testing but can't remember option of 1st two questions. Please any suggestion will be valuable for me.
1) Why protective conductor are connected to MET during insulation resistance?
2) what test, other than an external earth fault loop...
Evening. Got my hands on a pair of choke ballasts to run fluorescent tubes a few days ago and I want to see if they're in good condition.
If we're talking age these things are relics, manufactured in the USSR in 1964 and 1971 respectively, the guy who gave them to me said they were working...
Hi,
I carry out PAT testing on landlord appliances for letting agents in rented accommodation.
Occasionally some of the items I cannot access the plugtop without issues e.g appliances on Lino floor where it is impossible to remove without damaging the floor, cooker hoods with units built...
Hi all,
Not sure if asking about rates is allowed, but I'm wondering what people's thoughts are on chargeable rates for PAT testing. Baring in mind, I have the course certificate, but I don't have any PAT testing equipment yet, but I'm being asked more frequently if I do it.
I'm being asked...
In my line of work it's very rare that I ever have to change a DB. I'm largely in maintenance; occasionally have to add new circuits etc. so in respect to Testing this is all fairly straightforward to me.
I was thinking about DB changes earlier and started to stumble when it came to IR Testing...
