Hi. Could someone confirm weather you think I'm right or not. Today I installed a ceiling mounted suspension wire lighting track in a domestic kitchen. It's fed via a fairly chunky wire wound transformer (I don't know the kva of hand). The mcb supplying the circuit is a type b 6 amp rcbo...
Hi All
I was re-testing a brand new install for QC purposes todayand the N-E on the IR was 0 Megohms, am I right in expected the RCD to trip. Itwas a TN-C-S system so wondered if the shared neutral and earth may have aneffect?
The IR for L-N and L-E belled out perfectly, I haddisconnected both...
Tested some out side lights today and it triped after 10 seconds. With all loads disconnected.
Don't understand why it would trip after 10 seconds.
Had a slight short on the cable of 95k ohms
Any ideas
Hi,
Can a heating elements resistance to earth depend on its temperature? As I have one here that trips the RCD but when checking the resistance cold there is around 1.5M ohm-7M ohm to earth which shouldn't trip a 30mA RCD. Putting pressure on the element doesn't change it and there aren't...
Hi,
My heating system is a myson apollo 30b with a 3 way valve etc.
The other day wife said was a popping noise coming from kitchen where the programmer and boiler is , on investigation i have found when you turn down the tank stat which is a drayton hts 3 it when it gets below the temp and...

Hey all,
I'm playing with my new Metrel mi3000 and using my parents house as a quinea pig.
So if you see in the pic it has the main/rcd switch as a cutout and when trying to measure the zs my little Metrel trips it every time (tried on non trip and normal).
I have my R1+R2 and ze so can...
Handed a job this morning;
30kw motor. 55A. Circulation fan on 220°C toaster. Star-Delta setup with thermal overload in at Line contactor. Overload at 40A. D80 mcb tripped. Motor tested and found with negligible IR. Bearings 'lumpy' but felt a lot worse.
So... overload should have been set...
I've been called to a job for a friend as his swimming pool pump keep tripping the RCD, it took me a while to work out how the other electrician had wired it but of what I see, it's a bit of a mess. I'll do my best to explain for the pool I can see 3 MCB's used 1st is a 6A type b in to a time...
My mrs recently new bezzy girl mates partner has some property, my mrs said, " my hubby do it for ya at a good rate "
joy i think. I had this gut feeling, you know the one! My mrs and her mate have been looking to get us two men friends, there was even talks of going camping, err don't think...
...cos if the lamp is in effect Class II with connections only to L and N (Edison screw; standard bayonet cap in unearthed pendant or batten), you would naively think there is no way the L and N can be in imbalance. But still the RCD trips. Definitely talking RCD trips here not MCB. I've seen...
hi i was on a fuse board change to day and the new fuse board was switch off and no buzz bar connected and no tails connected but 1 of the circuits which was a radial to the kitchen when you put the neutral in it tripped the rcd can any 1 tell me why :lightbulb:
Any opinions on replacing a 100a main switch with 30 ma TVs, I'll have to move the internal tails from the bottom off the rcd to the top I know but is there anything to say I can't? Or just use rcbos

I have been away from a refurb job while other (inc. the owner) have been in and on my return I found that the RCD (for a cooker circuit and three power circuits) is tripping. It triped even when a fairly basic piece of equipment such as my makita drill charger of the owners kettle was plugged...
Hi there, Have been carrying out testing on some 3 phase sub-DB's that have outgoing supplies to 3-phase DB's for accommodation blocks. My problem is to do with readings I'm getting on a ground fault relay which has been set to 300mA. Basically, the incoming cable to the Sub DB ( 4-core 25mm...
4ft old style starter/ballast type fitting which when powered does nothing at all (not a flicker) but trips the 6A/30mA RCBO after maybe 3-5 secs. I didnt have my clamp meter with me when i went to see the fault but assume due to the time delay that its the overcurrent part of the RCBO rather...

Hi,
I am fairly new to this having only just completed and passing my Part P qualification so please bear with me. I decided to tidy up some wiring carried out in my house by a "professional" bathroom installer. The circuit in question is a 16amp radial with only one outlet supplying an...
I've used a particular socket in my kitchen to carry out monthly calibration checks (ZS & RCD) on my MFT, for several months with no issues. Last week I carried out my tests on my MFT and the x5 RCD test timed out at 40ms. Thinking I had a faulty RCBO, I replaced today, but the fault remained...
Hi,
I am looking for suggestions for a panel builder particularly round the Bristol area who could build up an over / under voltage protection unit using a suitable protection relay, contactor and so on and also be able to design the enclosure.
Thanks
James
