Hi guys.
Is it ok to spur off a old socket that's wired in the old twin/earth cable its either tinned copper (conductors and earth is sranded) or aliminium as iv heard metals can react with one another.thanks
Hi guys, I've got a 6mm T&E leaving the suppliers meter and supplying an old 3036 wylex in front of me and the meter is sealed. Never come across this before. I'm sure the house can handle the load but is the twin & e acceptable?
Cheers
I have come to a site to assist the install if fire protection equipment. Another contractor is doing the main electrical wiring. Working with one of them I observed him joining a 2.5 T&E ring cable under floorboards. I expected him to use a new style maintenance free joint box (e.g. the Ashley...
Hi, has anyone noticed Joe public can buy twin & earth at Screwfix for nearly the same price a skilled part p approved experienced Sparky can at the merchants he been using for 20 years. Doesn't seem right to me.
Hi all,
I have a thorn ip rated twin strip light in my loft which is not staying on. Basically when i switch the switch the light flashes a couple of times and then stops and doesn't come on. This is one of the lamps that doesn't have a little cylindrical starter in it but has the gubbins...
I was just wondering if anyone had been made to use 4" drain pipe clips to run t+e in.
I've been rewiring a primary school recently and the firm i've been subbying to supplied 400 pipe clips instead of any other form of containment.
The clips are fixed to timber joists with about 3" left...

Hi all,
just thought i would try and find a solution on how to find where a cable could be broken in a wall?
The break as i am putting it together with insulation test shows cable broken in the wall in the switch wire (so flashing disco lights) not good.
A few years ago the house...
I've been wiring up my shed and just want to check this is acceptable..
A SWA cable is ran from the CU to the shed (about 10 meters) but where it enters the shed is too short so my plan is to run a normal twin & earth from a junction box to the subboard (2 meters). Simply to save me buying more...
Hello, This is the first time iv came across anything like this and i went to quote this fuseboard for a upgrade yesterday and had a look inside and did all the required testing and inspecting and said id get back to them with a date when i can do the installation but came across one slight...
I have been asked to carry out intial testing and inspection of a large, new commercial project and have came across a ring main wired in twin + cpc 1.5mm cable, which serves two 2kW panel heaters. The cables are clipped direct for part of the run and for the remainder they are within an...
Greetings,
Is this allowed?
It would appear from BS7671(17th) that the installation reference number is 8 or 9 with a reference method 'B' for determining the current carrying capacity of the cable. However, the anomaly is that table 4D5 doesn't include a column for method 'B'.
Can anyone...
Is there any rule, as per the regs, that states that flexible cable can or should not be joined with T&E for the purposes of extending?
When I say "flex" of course I mean the stuff that you can twist the cores with your fingers vs T&E, which is a lot tougher and requires a tool, but is still...
My parents appear to have a twin and earth cable connecting the main switch to the CCU, it has two earths both of stranded copper, but twisted together separately. I think the Lines are 10mm2.
Anyone seen this before?
A few days ago I had installed a sunny boy 4000tl inverter. 16 suntech stp240s-20wd panels 8 east and 8 west (2strings) 3.84kWp
The display alternates between strings. But string 2 shows 0v always.
The system has been generating between 1kWh and 3.4kWh per day.
They are going to come out...
Hello all, discovered our new house purchase has a strange main cutout supply (well i've not seen this before) i'm sure i've read about something similar on here before but can't find it now.
The main cutout appears to have 2 supply cables to it , could one be a feed or a tap off for next door...
I bought one as an impulse buy at a builders merchants of mine last week, as thought it was a great idea with potential as an SWA wire strip tool and only £8 on my rates.
I've just sent Stanley an email complaining of how poor the blade change is (almost impossible) and subsequently seen loads...
