Hi Guys,
I'm not into design etc and never have been really but how do you calculate volt drop on a distribution ring main circuit? Ring circuit say covering a large area supplying various loads/buildings. I was thinking split the ring and work it out as 2 x radial circuits, but 1 radial may...
Hi folks!
Any answers on this problem?
I attended site and was told various items of equipment caused the rcd to trip randomly,after checking the Ze and voltage I tested the rcd which wouldn't trip x1 or x5.
I then deemed this faulty and replaced the rcd only to find this also did not trip.
I...
some one please help. i have a 2 way lighting circuit, wired through a 6 term jb ins res is ok all other test show no faults 30v on strappers. only affects energy saving bulbs. could it be it requires power correction capacitor? answers on a postcard please
Just wondering can anybody help me. The boiler I'm working with is a vokera verve combi boiler.
the house has a three zone programmer so hot water, first floor rads and second floor rads each controlled by a 2 port motorised valve..
the basement of the house has underfloor heating..
there is a...
i recentley carried out an ecr to a domestic dwelling and found the main earth was sparking when touched to the earth bar, all test result were ok , all ir's to all ccts were +299Mohm , main protective bonding conductors all verified , split board installed (16th) split with 30 mA additional...
Hi,
I've been doing some revison and came across 2 different equations for voltage drop.
The first one is;
Vd = mV/A x Ib x L divided by 1000
The second one is;
Vd = (R1 + R2) x Ib x Multiplier
The multiplier is to compensate the difference in conductor temperature at the time of the test...
I've done a search on above, but doesn't appear to be many recent posts. What make of voltage tester are you using. I have Dilog Combivolt, the lead from the main body has become exposed. Not very good with less than two years of service. Anything more robust?
Hi I'm new to this forum and only posting because I'm stuck and cannot answer it myself
I have a 2001 transit jumbo mobile workshop. I have recently bought a new welder and was trying to get it all rigged up

Hi All,
I have a broken LED light string (I've two actually, one embedded in an Xmas tree and one standalone) . It seems these are wired in series so I presume that one or more LEDs are U/S. The challenge is finding the broken LED(s) and then what to do with them.
I was prpposing to simply...
One of theses PIRs has given up the ghost on my (very old!) security lighting system. Everyone I've asked tells me there is nothing compatible in todays market, so I'm hoping someone has got an old one gathering dust somewhere.
I'll happily buy more than one if you've got any from an old...
Hi everyone, I have a metrel instaltest that, when testing single phase voltage always returns a reading of 540 V on L1 L2 L3. This suggests an internal fault that it automatically thinks it's testing three phase somehow. Has anyone else experienced similar faults with Metrel gear? Thanks
Hi guys,
what is the method you use to discharge ghost voltages, reason I'm asking is I have being given a job by a heating engineer who is saying they are getting 23v across the heating pipes, he has informed me that the voltage disappears when the lighting circuit is switched off which leads...
Just picked one of these up today and was wondering if anyone else has one to compare mine to.
Fluke 1AC-II Voltage Detector Pen | Voltage Testers | Screwfix.com
Reason I ask is mine seems to be a little insensitive, Not like most others where it goes off when you are 6 inches away from...
Hello All,
Domestic installation. Need some help please. A customer has asked me to installed 9.5kW shower. It is a new install. The cable I have decide on is a 10mm2 Flat twin and Earth. The shower is being install 24 meters from the consumer unit. The cable between the shower unit...
Hi,
Im a fairly new sparky,
So just wanted to get a little idea as im not 100% sure,
Im adding 12m of 1.5mm cable in trunking into a conservatory from a fcu of the ring main the volt drop for this part would be 4.5v so i may need to up the cable size. But what i need to know or confirm is what...
I have a cheap and cheerful UV fly killer which is probably a couple of years old. I noticed the other day that the high voltage side of things is no longer working so I dismantled it. Inside, apart from the fluorescent ballast which is still working fine there's just a single transformer...
Can someone offer me some guidance.
I am wanting to keep the switching pair on two zone valves aswell as the switching pairs in a time clock volt free. Mainly so that 230V isnt flying around different wiring centres.
Is there a way I can have volt free switching to pull a relay of some sort...
I have a unique problem I have 120 volts to ground coming into panel on each phase and 240 across both. if I run a dedicated line to a outlet plug in a light or battery charger what ver I saw he voltage go to 70-94 volts and even 170 volts if i turn other breakers! what you all think I am stumped
