Hi All,
Quick brain pick.
If I don't care about voltage drop (eg. all components on the circuit will run between 100-250V) and current capacity is within limits, are there any other considerations when deciding to use a smaller than 'normal' cable size?
200m run - 10 x 300w loads equally...
Hi All,
Been to look at a job with a hot tub 27A load, 30 metre run. Don't do much volt drop calculating but here's what I did, anyone disagree? Thinking 6 mm armoured so:
7.3x27x30/1000=5.91v
max permissible (5% of...
Have come across a low voltage transformer which has been placed in the ceiling above a shower not accessible at all which means the customer cannot change the time period on the overrun. I can't find anything in the regs that says the transformer needs to be accessible. Anyone have any thoughts...
i HAVE 240 volt wire feeding a submers water pump going down long hill.at bottom of hill is a junction box with 4 wire for pump on a dryer plug.rest of 4 wire feed plugs into it.for pump.i want to hook a 120 volt plug in at this point using the existing 240 volt 4 wire with 2 hots.can i do this...
Hi I've got a question regarding volt drop.
When calculating volt drop to a 3 phase distribution board do I use 230v (11.5v) or 400v (20v)
The board I'm attempting to put a cable to is 75 meters away.
Design current 100A
From TABLE 4D4A Cable selected = 25 mm²
For 25 mm²: mV/A/m 1.75 for 230v...
I have an install to complete where I have to take a 100amps per phase three phase supply over 330m too power a new installation. The power at source is obviously 415v (give or take) however the rating on the machine at the other end is 400v (build in Europe somewhere). I'm currently having a...
Can anyone help?
A customer has a light fitting in a bedroom (5 bulbs) which is switched two ways with a dimmer switch by the door and a switch by the bed.
He states that at some point he switched it on and nothing happened. He assures me they were working at some point before!!!!! He replaced...
Just wondered if it's a no no to run 2 low voltage lights from one FCU
I have wired up sockets and lights to my decking outdoor accessories of course.
From my sockets I have spured of to a RCD FCU from this I have my decking spotlights.
So my question is can I run some LED strip lights to...
All,
I have my niceic inspection coming up soon and am a little confused about the requirements for a 2 pole voltage detector. According guidance note 3, a multifunction tester, multi meter or a volt stick can't be used which is fine, but what I want to know is if a clamp meter capable of...
I am checking an install and noticed the voltage between line and earth is 190 volts. I checked incoming supply voltage with the main consumer unit isolated and am getting 220v l-n and l-e when I switch cu on voltage l-n is 220 volts l-e drops to 190 volts I have disconnected all circuits and...
Morning gents, just a quick one. I've posted this already on the Solar PV forum but thought I'd add it here too as VD and cable calcs are always a good topic of discussion.
So I have a Solar PV system to install this weekend, its a 10KW single phase system on a farm. I'm going to be running a...
Just a quick one folk.
Do the voltage drop tables in the BGB apply for ELV systems?
I'm converting my van to a camper so I'd adding 12v circuits for lighting, water pump etc.
It's all going to be run in 3183Y flexible cable, can I use the VD values per mA/m in the regs, the same way as I...
Have just replaced my low voltage thermostat with NEST version.
Have moved the new thermostat by extending wiring with connection box (wiring is low voltage).
Is it safe to plaster directly over the connection box and wiring??
Cheers.
How does earth fault loop impedance and disconnect time requirements change for 3phase 3 wire 230 volt systems where the phase to earth voltage is 133 volts instead of 230 volts?
Hi guys. Those who don't know me I have recently started on my own.
I am testing my understanding, re Volt drop. And trying to stick to one formula. But I'm getting mixed results.
My example scenario would be to feed a CU in an outhouse / shed.
The CU will feed sockets, lights and some form...
Been to look at a faulty socket on a rcbo and wont hold in, tried to test trip times etc but reading voltage on earth. Supply is tt, 3ph and 1 ph to a domestic property. Shared earth rod. Cant turn house off as belongs to separate person. So tested voltage at 3 ph db, 230, 400 v etc but...
