I have a twin battery set up one for van starting and the other for aux in the...
Hi I've been given the task of wiring up a 2 phase spot welder, after being told to go and just plug it into a 16 amp socket I found out it takes 43 amp and so told them it needs a hole new circuit. I read the manufactures instructions and found it said for the machine they have. I need 10mm...
Hi All,
I am faced with a 2-phase resistance welder which is protected by a 63C breaker, the welder, input current, is momentarily tonging in at 120A per phase whilst welding. Although the MCB-C should take at least 5xIN, should it be designed to take this 120A many times a minute or should...
Hi guys, I'm planing on putting some power to my grandparents garage so I can work on my car. I'm going to put in one double socket which will be running a freezer, and my welder too, and then a couple 5ft fluorescents or x2 battenholders.. whatever gives the best spread of light?

hi all
I have been asked by a friend with a small workshop to swap the plug on an ali welder he has just purchased.
upon inspection the welder has an old style bakrlight plug. and also is stated on the machine as 400v single phase 50-60hz
when the old plug as removed there was only three 6mm...
Hi I have a commando socket to fit in my work unit to supply a gas welder, am I right in saying these come in 16 and 32 amps? What size of breaker would be best, I can't seem to find the right info on the welder for working out the max load?
thanks

Hoping I can get some guidance on a new supply for an arc welder. The electrical plate states 'max current 350a' and 'welding range 50a-450a'
How would you go about deciding what size cable? The load cable going to it looks like 10mm tri rated.
also noticed that the load cable is 3 phase but 2...
one of the fitters has fetched me a welder where he has welded threw or melted the earth cable, and main stick weld cable it is currently 10mm2 cable, my question is can i use 16mm2 tri-rated or does have it to be "proper" welding cable (as it seems rather expensive for a drum of it)
cheers
Has anyone ever done an installation for use of a welder? reason i ask is that im wiring up this guys farm buildings at minute and he has some old school big welder which he wants to use. Ive advised we put a 50A mcb and a separate small db from the rest; lights, exterior lights, ring final etc...
I was called to a farm today as the RCBO protecting several 13amp sockets on a work bench kept tripping intermittantly.
Upon removing the first socket (all metal clad twins fed in PVC conduit/egatube) I found that the 1.5mm CPC insulation had melted and welded itself to the neutral & live...
Hello, are there any helpful sparks out there who will answer a question for me? I want to put a 2 way CU into a garage for lighting and a few 13amp sockets but I also want a 32 amp socket for occasional use of a welder. I'm doing the first fix myself as I have the ceilings down anyway.
My...
Hi all - newbie to the forum. Am looking for a bit of advice as electrics is not my strong point.
We've recently moved into a new house with the great benefit of a double garage. I'd like to run a TIG welder from the garage, but I've looked into the cost of getting 3 phase installed and it's...
My old man just rang me wants to buy a welder but the manufacturers instructions say the welder has to be connected to a 30A fused spur, He hasnt bought it yet he said hes going to get more details for me tomorrow which ill post up,

Hi
I recently installed a supply for my mates welder in his workshop.
2.5mm SWA from existing TP Schneider DB to 16A wall mounted socket.
Protected by 16A Type C MCB.
Welder has a 16A blue plug attached and this is how it came from the manufacturer.
The breaker trips after one or two welds...
I have a pairof 24 volt 3.3ah NI-MH batteries and yesterday I put one to charge. Within 10 minutes the charger had said it was fully charged. Put it onto the drill and there was almost no speed with the drill.

My workshop is a bit remote, have no power, been working of quality power inverter, usa made "trace"gives constant 2.000 watts, peaks to 6.000 for ten minutes, unlike eastern models that give constant & peak for a few sconds,my question is this,i would like to run a 300 amp. mma (stick) welder from a...
I've been asked to install and American TIG welder in a workshop at a site where i do some more normal commercial works.
The Welder requires a 400v Supply (no problem as TP supply nearby) but the current DB is a Hager unit for whichi can only find max MCB's of 63A. this welder requires...
I recently picked up a job to install some power and lighting in a new small shed/workshop being built in somebody's garden.
When asking about what was going in there, the builder told me it would just be a couple of small power tools, but on further investigation the customer wants to use an...
Hi,
In an installation there are 6no. Eurarc 420 welders supplied from dedicated 40Amp single phase RCBO's housed within a dedicated distribution baord. The welders can be operated as either single or three phase via a selector switch. The current arrangement is single phase with ABB 32A...
