Hello fellow sparks .... Recently I've been using my local Screwfix for switches and sockets and as of late I've been noticing a serious lack of quality .. I'd rather pay a better price and have a quality product and finish on the jobs .. does anyone have a recommendation for brand and supplier...
In the beginning when the Guild created the Wiring regulations, the trade was a formless void and darkness covered the face of construction , while an idea from the Guild swept over the face of construction. Then the Guild said, ‘Let there be Editions’ and there were also Amendments The Guild...
Hi all,
Really dumb question!
Is there a trick to removing these downlights, this feels like it's built into the plaster board, normally I just twist, wiggle and pull down and the springs go back and down drops the light. This one just pulls the plaster down. What am I missing?
Thanks,
Martin
Normally I would install mains supplied and interconnected smoke and heat alarms in a rented property or in any alteration but I have a customer convinced that battery ones with radio link is acceptable. Any installs I do normally state wired, interconnected to be installed but an other spark...
ElectriciansForums.net was launched 2007-ish. Under the domain ElectriciansForums.co.uk. We changed our domain to suit the traffic we were getting in 2019, and this is the same for TilersForums.com and PlumbersForums.net.

Hi all
I want to replace the aerial cable in my house as the old stuff is... old! And it has several joins along the way. In the first instance the run from aerial to TV will be around 20 metres.
I remember when I looked into it years ago that CT100 is the best stuff to get. So just looking...
As the title says, what's the best way of doing this?
I got a good set of GCSES (2A*s, 10As and 2Bs) however I do not think that I will be able to go to uni. Instead learning a trade is a more likely option. I have decided to go to being an electrician and will probably apply for something...
Was asked to an EICR a building today, old church converted into workshop. This was 1 of 6 boards, this is how i found it. Was told it hasn't had a cover in 20 years and the last electrician passed it so what's the issue? Some people are unbelievable. To make matters worse it's at head height...
Just wanted to get something off my chest......
Don't you hate it when a customer asks...can I have an extra Plug Socket.
What the hell is a plug socket???
I know a (domestic) plug is typically a 3 pin plug conforming to BS1363, and I know that a (domestic) socket is typically the type we all...
Hi, I got my house that needs skimming. 2 guy's have come out to quote job. According to them job should take 5 days. Price one guy quoted for just labour is obscene. More than an electrician.
1400 for hallways both upstairs and downstairs. Knocked down to 1100.
10×14ft bedroom, without...
Respected member and forum mentor, I just wondered what each one was and what the difference is.
And can I have one of each.
I've also seen some that say electricians arms, what's that about and can I have one of them as well.
The least I have ever seen is an ordinary continuity / insulation resistance tester and a roll each of pass / fail stickers and the guy did a damn good job.
What do you think we should carry and why ?
What's the beef?
Unusually, I'm a member of both electricians forums and plumbers forums, I work across both areas, in fact I frequently combine water and electricity in many varied and fun ways!
This leads me to ask why sparks and plumbers are forever complaining about each other in their own...
England are through to the quarter finals of the World Cup and there's not even a singly footy thread been started. Are you guys following netball instead nowadays? What's the chances of a win?
Hi Guys and Gals, currently I am finishing off my NVQ & i'm being asked the question on One file "Check the safety of electrical systems prior to the commencement of inspection, testing and commissioning".... Is this just fancy wording to say check Ze before you do anything else?
Any advice...
Off a Backer immersion heater element. Unlike others I've seen, rather than having a long threaded rod with a nut on the end to hold the cover in place, the threaded rod does not extend beyond the cover, and relies on this sort of female machine screw thing to hold it in place. Which is missing...
