I've wired up my spots however the main light [the one that was once a ceiling rose] works as intended with the light switch, but the rest are permanently on?
What have I done wrong?
The spots do not have In and Out terminals as part of the fitting, only a blue and brown connector block.
Just thought I'd share this quick sobering story that happened to me a couple of weekends ago....
Overhead 230v lighting festoon, LED golf ball ES, zig-zagging it's way merrily down a street in Central London used for market stalls underneath. Not my installation! High vehicle managed to...
I always turn off main switch before removing cover or doing any work in a DB, but when should incoming supply be isolated ?
When placing a clamp-on ammeter around an incoming phase conductor in a 3 phase board a spark to board casing occurred. Later found to be pre-existing damage to insulation...
For example the house today had two lighting T&E in the same MCB. I know it's fine, but as I test both 'radials' where and how do we enter them on an EIC/EICR form on the NICEIC online certification thing?
I can make extra lines on the circuit chart, but do we write them down as MCB-8a MCB-8b...
I have an Adexa dishwaser (7kg EMP.500 under counter style) that fills, heats and empties ok but has stopped working on the wash cycle. I replaced the internal 500ma fuse and it worked for a few minutes on the wash cycle but blew the fuse again.
Ive chcked the capacitor is working using a...
Good afternoon everyone.
I have fitted an extractor fan in my bathroom with an overrun timer, to start when the bathroom led lights are turned on. I have wired the feed to the fan via an adjustable overrun timer and DP isolator with the SL for the fan timer coming from the light switch.
The...

I am never quite sure if I am doing too little or too much when someone has a flood and I am called in.
The most recent example is a chap has had fairly major flood damage to ceilings, carpets etc and it has poured through certain ceiling pendants and downlights.
Advice on the net states that...
I get wanting to do a good job but does being super neat inside a board really make it a better job?
I don't see any advantage to it aside from aesthetics and if it's something that's not seen then....what's the point in obsessing over how neat it all looks?
To me it's a bit like a kitchen...
Not sure on this one.
Mains water is coming up from the ground in lead pipe in bathroom. 2 inches of copper pipe before the stop tap. All pipework inside the house after stop tap is plastic.
Does that 2 inch of copper pipe before stop need mains bonding?
I replaced a single pole to exterior lights with a smart switch. Next to it is a 3way to my foyer light. The foyer and the smart switch to exterior works. However I seem to have killed the power to an exterior outlet. In order to get the switch to work, I had connect the red switch pigtail...
Afternoon all,
I have an issue with the loft socket. When we moved the previous owners had a 2.5mm cable going up from the CU Via FCU however, the wiring was old and did not have earths(they cut them off).
So I decided to completely rip out the old wiring including unnecessary spur and put...
Got my am2 coming up on Tuesday and I know I have to calculate my Zs readings
Maybe I’m overthinking this but am not sure if I need to use the Ze (which is apparently given to me) or my measured Zdb from my three phase panel in the equation. I have heard different answers, would be great if...
Hi,
A baseboard heater in my house emits a short buzzing sound every 30 seconds. It seems to happen only when the room is near the temperature I've set on my thermostat, that is, only when the heater is keeping the room at a certain temperature, and not when it's working hard to raise the...
Hi forum members, I hope someone can assist with my enquiry. I have been advised that to comply with BS7671 Reg 132.16 my solar and battery installation will require equipotential bonding at my gas meter and water stopcock, but for the life of me I can't understand why if the appropriate...
HI everyone I'm getting 255 volts between live and earth natural to live on a live lighting circuit fed from 6amp rcbo ,

Hi there, wondering if anyone can give me some advice please.
In my kitchen I have a cooker switch with a plug socket which I believe is on a dedicated circuit. If I test it with a Voltage Tester it read all correct as it should. Now if I turn off the Mcb on the CU which is labeled "Cooker" it...
I installed an illuminated switch (switch is lit when circuit is off) for my porch light. I noticed that even when off, my LED porch lite is dimmly lit. I measured the voltage at the socket and it was 25VAC. Is this expected or did I install a faulty switch?
Hi everyone
I am new in this forum and this is my first thread.
Car model: Toyota echo 2004 sedan.
I used a multimeter to test the car radio battery wire ( blue/yellow) when it was disconnected from the car radio, its reading was 0v. ( as shown in photo 1 ) before and after ignition, isn't it...
