Evening all,
Not a qualified spark so I thought it better to ask than make assumptions.
Swapping all switches/sockets in our house to screwless ones, all going fine until I went to swap the cooker isolator switch. The old one has feed top, load bottom. The new one has load top, feed bottom. As...
Hi all, new to the forum so apologies if this one is covered in a separate thread please feel free to redirect me :)
I have a 2017 (67 plate) GTE and 4 times in the past month the car horn sounds constantly for over 10 seconds, pauses for a second or two then sounds again constantly when I...
Hello everyone
I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with these sockets not resetting. I have a client with three of them for the purpose of servicing air handling units. Rarely used but just will not reset. Installed 5 years ago.
Regards, Tim.
I do a lot of ev charging so do a lot of rod installations. If impedance is over 100 ohms on the rod the RCD will trip on x1 but will not trip on x5. I have tried different RCDs etc but this always seems to be the case....anyone know why this is? The RCDs are type A so DC sensitive..
Hi

My daughter wanted a smart meter but when the fitter came he said he couldn't fit it because "the meter is on the same board as the CU".
I don't have a picture and she lives 120 miles away, but I do know that it is all in her understairs cupboard.
Is this something to be concerned about?
Hi guys.
I have a led bathroom mirror the other day it was turning on and off on its own now it won't turn off. Any ideas what it could be?
Thanks in advance.
Hi all
Firstly, I'm not an electrician but have found these forums extremely helpful reading over the last couple of weeks due to a running battle I've been having with UK Power Networks. Hoping some of the experts on here might be able to shed some light on the below...
I recently arranged...
I have two lights on same circuit served by a single switch. Two filament bulbs work fine. One filament bulb plus one LED work fine in either position. Two LEDs will not light up (normally). If I switch on they momentarily light up, then go out, with one bulb nearest the switch going on and off...
Hi all,
We have a problem replacing a gas commercial cooker, it's in a small commercial setting (a care home).
We just want to swap the old cooker for a brand new equivalent but are being told that no one will do the swap/install unless we also install a canopy extracting externally (rather...
Working on a Roper washing machine model rtw4641bq0. It completely runs an entire cycle and then starts over again. I have to manually cancel it otherwise it would run all day. Also, if the power goes out the washer automatically starts up again once power is brought back. Any ideas? Thank...
I know the regs for the regular notching of joists, but I can find nothing about notching up the side of a joist. I need to route my cables up past a large wooden beam 4500mm x 400mm, 115mm thick. Do the normal rules apply? 0.07-0.25 of the length and 0.125 of the depth? Or is it a no go?
Cheers
This has to some sort of sick joke. Who would think of such a bill.....

Just watched a colleague try and fit 70mm double insulated mains tails in to a 100A main switch! Let’s just say the main switch won and leave it at that!
HI,
Been asked to go look at a keypad door entry system where it has been reported the magnet isn't letting go of the door on input of the code.
Apparently a green light on the keypad illuminates on input of the code but door won't release.
What's the most likely problem?
It will prob be...
Just now SSE meter installer rang to say he could not swap a tenant's meter because it had a "shared neutral".
The meter is a pre-pay key meter which was installed when a previous tenant didnt pay his bill. Landlord is trying to get it swapped for a normal credit meter for the new tenant...
I'm half way through an installation job that I didn't design, and have come up against an oversight that I need a solution for.
The issue at hand is a new kitchen with a cooker and an oven. The original design showed a 10 mm feed for the cooker, with the oven on the ring (hmm). After looking...
Good evening all just wondering if anyone has recently fitted a schneider kq 250amp switch disconnector and had an issue with the busbar terminals on the TP&N board not lining up with the busbar extensions?
The problem arose from when the kitchen stopped working, we tried turning the kitchen back on but now the whole circuit is out, the RCD is stuck permanently off.
so I checked a socket that we think it was that had a short circuit, it's not that. Apparently the RCD has been tripping every few...
