I have just fitted a new Zone on the central heating and need to wire it up. The new Zone will be controlled by a Carel S90 digital thermostat. Where the Zone valves have been fitted, the timer/thermostat cable runs past, so I've cut into the cable and it has 2 lives, earth and neutral. Because...
I have been asked to put a panel heater in a bathroom which I had planned to put on an unswitched FCU within the bathroom but outside of Zone 2. Now that I have read the OSG Table 8.1 I am not sure that this is permitted. Do the regs class the FCU as a socket or am i allowed to do it. I was...

A door has been moved, so I'm moving a light switch.
Originally thought I was going to have to put the cable in earthed conduit as it's outside of safe zones (although RCD'd).
Started wondering about "creating" a new safe zone. Was planning on installing a new double socket, pretty much below...
My electrician says he can't sign off the installation in my new loft conversion because the 240V extractor fan is in zone 1 (directly above the shower), and hence violates the Regs. He says the easiest option is to replace it with a 12V one, and locate the transformer remotely.
Disappointed, I...
Hi All,
I have a client who wishes to install an waterproof tv in his bathroom, the position would be in zone 1/2 , as far as the current regs go I believe this to be an area for SELV circuits alone. Anybody got any other information to this ?
Thanks
Dusty
what needs to be done to protect wires that are buried inside the fabric of the building and not ran in a proper zone?
Am i right in saying you can run a wire wherever you like as long as it's either
RCD protected
mechanically protected
or buried 50mm deep

Just wanted some advice about fire alarm panels. Am I right in thinking sounder circuits must be independent, where as break glass and detection units are wired tOgether. Can they be wired as radials in 2 core t/e in fire rated cable for each zone back to the fire panel, with the main supply as...
In the New Year I'm re-wiring an empty 3rd floor apartment. Now this has concrete floors and ceilings and very decorative ceiling coving to all rooms that have 'not to be disturbed'. A good solution for new cable runs would be behind the skirting boards and door architraves. This isn't mentioned...
Hi i am wiring up an S plan heating system tomorrow which has a 3rd 2 port valve with separate controls for underfloor heating, does anybody know how to wire these as i am thinking i will end up with 2 switch lines at the boiler witch will back feed to either one that is not activated.
Thanks
hi, could anyone help me with this one, is the ceiling above a bath or shower classed as zone 1 or an outside zone if it is more than 2.25 metres high. Looking at the on site guide, it seems to be outside zone 1.. But I had a look at an article in a trade mag and it states that the zone 1 above...
I need to run a lighting circuit cable up a bedroom wall into the loft from CU on ground floor. For ease and minimising cable length I see two options. Shown by red lines in diagram.
Questions are
1) In option 1 does the position of the window break the corner safe zone?
2) In option 2 is it...
