Hello,Was told this today and am wondering if it is correct.If you have 240v ac and do not use the neutral then you get 12v ac?Thanks
 
Voltage in the UK is 230 nominal - end of.

Oh and look up volt drop ;)

end of, my arse. might be 230v 'nominal' to satisfy the euro rats, but it comes into the house at 240V , unless upstram the poncy neighbours have a 12kW shower 25kW hot tub, and mcdonalds cooking range, then it's down to 230 ish.
 
Think you mentor is winding you up, At least I really hope he is else he's plain stupid/dangerous!
As for the Voltage thing 250V is normal here, Apparently we are on "A hot spot" according to the DNO.
That being said we had a fault in one of our warehouses a few years ago and we were getting 300v!
Didnt know anything about it until PC's and phone chargers started blowing.

Just out of interest, what is the power consumption of a mcdonalds cooking range, and are they even available to the general public?
