Hi....I have been asked by a local land owner, who lives in the local mansion!!!!!!!!!! If I could replace all the double sockets in the house....the main house....not the West wing where the kitchen is....lol The trouble is the old double round pin 15amp sockets have bigger face plates than normal sockets, I haven't actually measured them yet. I'm doing a bit of research first. Are there companies that specialize in this sort of thing. They have to be BRAAAARRRRSSS also. I was told. Those totally spiffing good chaps on tharrt electricians forum are bound to know, I proceeded to tell one.

Just a thought - any sheet metal fabricators should be able to make a run of punched brass plates to your design fairly quickly and easily, if you can find a brand of 13A socket where the body will detach from the faceplate fairly easily then I can't see any reason why you couldn't just make some yourself. I'm guessing that most of the existing metal finish plates (like Hamilton) work on this same principle. Obviously you have to find a 13A which has a plastic insert around the terminals!

I've seen finger plates used in stately homes albeit a brass/plate sort of fitting with standard brass sockets/switches to either protect the decor or to save repairing the decor after electric upgrade, so not really a stupid idea.
I've also seen 'finger plates' used to protect expensive wallpaper in similar situations. Not the cheapo white ones you can buy from Wilkinsons but clear acrylic ones.

That reminds me of a story I was told about a rewire of a stately home; it contained a very rare example of Tudor wallpaper.
Yes the apprentice chased down it.
And no, the client wasn't amused.
