Discuss 17th and part p advice in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

I have studied for 3 years evenings and weekends,I have now got level 3 electrics, 17th edition and past 2391 Inspection & testing first time, but because I don't work in the industry I still don't feel I have enough knowledge to go and apply for part p and work on my own.
There is a lot more to electrics than people think or will ever understand.
My advise is to pay for a qualified sparky or if you are lucky enough, to work closely with one to gain valuable knowledge before embarking on the 17th as you will need to know how to do cable calculation formula's, voltage drop, rcd trip time etc, things you have probably never heard of.

Well done on spending the time and putting in the effort to get where you are now Stripes. And the very best of luck to you on gaining that real need of, on the job experience. Your well on the way to becoming a ''Qualified'' Electrician!!

Thanks for that.
I have been sending out letters to local electricians offering myself for free at weekends to gain experience but have had no replies.
Cannot afford to go as sparky's mate as I have a family to feed.
Any ideas on gaining experience very welcome.

sparky's mate should pay around ÂŁ8/hour. not great wages, but keeps the wolf away from the door.

Come on then guys, in light of my post#27. Who is going to let me loose with some freelance dentistry. I'll do it on the cheap since I'm just learning:)

keep trying mate

and at every opportunity tell everyone you can about what you have done and what your willing to do
i am in a similar position as you but i have registered with elecsa
not finsished LV3 but have 2391 have previous experience as i have been involved on and off for 25 yrs but lack in areas of expertise such as industrial etc
and through speaking to people i have come into contact with at college or in the building trade have been getting increasingly offered more work
For example a friend i met on a course and never knew before is trying to get me some work with him for experience of 3 phase, commercial and industrial
and he also recommended me to a friend who also has his own firm
From that i rang a number yesterday spoke arranged a meeting for today to have a chat
went spoke to him about what i have done and havnt and now will be doing a few days trial so to speak for him and also for I to see how things are then i may get some part time or full time work as a result but until i know its the right firm that i feel i would benefit from working with wont count all me chickens yet and wont keep all me eggs in one basket
I am also a carer for my partner which if this works I will no longer be
But i will still be trying to get work with my friends firm as i believe it would benefit me more so have offered to work with him for his boss also for free or part time or full time whichever / whatever as long as your working your gaining experience / evidence and hopefully willearn me some of my hard earned savings i have spent and which will all help me with my NVQ and becoming fully qualified and a JIB approved electrician with as much experience as i can get with whoever i can get it lol
good luck mate keep trying

If the socket is installed in a safe place that's fine - you can't influence what people will plug in in the future.
