17th Edition Test Meters, which one to buy???

I have just had the dreaded call from the repairers saying that my Metrel tester is knackered as it was dropped last week! The cost to repair it is about £100 short of a new one and they only give a 3 month warranty on the repair. I think I want a new one as I may be able to get an extended warranty.

Which meters are you guys using and are they any good??

Thanks in advance

Joe

I will be going over to fluke after I have dropped this new megger, will probably happen quite soon as I get more and more fed up with it every day. Still it only cost 500 knicker eh?

Dropped, or was it pushed :)

OP - search for Megger on the forum there are loads of posts about the problems with the 1700 series. If you really want Megger the 1500 series is still available.

Personally I'd go for a Metrel or Fluke as has been suggested

Personally i have used a few over the years, still have my Robin(seperates) test kit i had when with my company but is retired in the shed due to age & lack of not trip RCD function on loop test
Bought a metral last year after seeing many good reviews, & i couldn't be happier with it especially for the price, if i was you i would stick with what you know & not change for the sake of a more expensive named product, not always the best!

I had the dreaded multi-function megger, immediately got sent back for firmware upgrade for de-lock loop tests which has fixed it, however you cannot lock the loop function and then touch the probes on.
On the plus side it is lightning fast on an auto RCD test and the lo-ohm testing gives bloody good stable results fast.
I normally use the megger individual bricks (can't remeber the model number) and although they work well, there is no 2 wire de-lock, and the connectors on the back of the tester are flimsy and eventually push through, meaning it needs a new back plate at a cost of £200!

Couldn't beat the old robins for quality they just go on and on!
