looking at some of the draft papers out at the moment on 18th,am I right to assume we may be getting back to installing cabling correctly.
Bringing back galv conduit, metal trunking, will plastic conduit be obsolete to comply to 18th.

So I shouldn't have been using Galv under the 17th? Best I go rip it all out then.

And what's wrong with PVC conduit? Why wouldn't it be compliant?

There you are

It's just saying you need to use a suitable means of supporting the cable in the event of a fire.

So for example you can still use plastic conduit or trunking but cables will need to be supported by something like this.
Mini Trunking Fire Clips, 50 pcs - http://www.partex-direct.co.uk/MTCC-T26-Mini-Trunking-Clips

This was already included in Amd3 for cables installed in escape routes it's just been extended.
Obviously steel tray and conduit is a better engernering solution, for those commercial installs but your still see plastic used, im sure !

Exactly, will it even be worth installing plastic, then messing around with metal bits & pieces for support.
May be the return of trunking & galv.

Of course cost will be a factor on choosing the type of containment (pvc with metallic supports or metallic containment) if not specified by the client or a consultant.
At the end of the day you can comply with the regulations by choosing either.

The metal clips inside pvc minitrunking are no big fuss, takes no longer than installing without to be fair and holds the cable in place nicely for those one handed jobs I sometimes find myself on.

I have seen fire alarm guys install PVC conduit on metal saddles for years now, it's pretty standard.

I do agree that full metal containment is a far superior system, but there are other options for compliance where they are not suited to the job.

Yea ok,literally stopped installing conduit ages ok,weren’t specified, cheapest seemed to rule, wouldn’t it be great to go back to proper skilled installs,& now with these changes hopefully we will & get the right prices & the right installs, instead of seeing messy & rough works.
