looking at some of the draft papers out at the moment on 18th,am I right to assume we may be getting back to installing cabling correctly.
Bringing back galv conduit, metal trunking, will plastic conduit be obsolete to comply to 18th.

Yea ok,literally stopped installing conduit ages ok,weren’t specified, cheapest seemed to rule, wouldn’t it be great to go back to proper skilled installs,& now with these changes hopefully we will & get the right prices & the right installs, instead of seeing messy & rough works.

That would be nice yes. I'm glad I don't do large commercial work, some of the stuff I have seen about new installs is awful.

Oh, and for the record I've never installed PVC conduit on metal saddles...;)

For every new problem a new solution is found.

Plastic conduit saddles would only need to have metallic reinforcement.

And I don't know what cloud you're on if you think Commercial customers are suddenly going to be paying a lot more for the right install.
They'll be expecting Compliant installations for old prices and they'll get it because someone will always quote lower.
The same as Carrillion did.

Agree, but maybe they may have to,if they want the work to comply,be a bit like when introducing the rcbo’s,adding more cost than before
I am just off to cut my

One of the problems in the commercial/industrial sector is the use of unskilled labour.
Was working on a Data Center at the end of last year, virtually all the containment had been installed by a joinery company.
Job I’m on now, whilst it was an electrical company which did the installation and wiring, only one of the installers was a qualified electrician, the rest ‘mates’ or ‘improvers’.
Then you have data, fire, security, etc. companies who all seem to think none of their wiring has to comply with BS7671.

I really don't understand what everyone is getting so excited about. Why are some people getting semi erect over the latest edition of the regs coming out...?

I won't be too happy to hand over ££££ just for another piece of paper saying I've done the latest BS7671.

Who cares

All the jobs i work on these days are done in metallic conduit, trunking, tray, basket, ladder etc.

The only plastic is normally the DADO trunking.

Not T&E in sight.
