Hi
We have opened a pizza shop, we sold the old oven which said it was 3 phase, and purchased a new 3 phase oven.
Not being a real sparky, I saw the 3 lines and an earth and assumed that every thing was ok. Until I had some one to install it for me,then found that it didn't work, due to us having 2 phase split. So in short we converted the oven to run on single phased, our neighbor upstairs, has her lights flicker, Power Networks says it the oven doing it, when they did a test in out other power outlets when the oven reaches full temperature, we lost 10 volts. Which they think this is the cause of the flickering lights.
They are saying we have to either cease using it or get 3 phase i, which they have quoted ÂŁ34,000, is there anything we can do to solve the problem, I am all ears.
thanks

Use one Phase and a 3 Phase converter if you're that desperate. A lot cheaper than that ÂŁ34,000 you've been quoted but still not cheap. Gets more expensive as your need for kW increases.

OR

Just get a single phase oven.

I wouldn't recommend trying to alter any electrics yourself though just saying.

been lucky you haven't blown the service fuse what idiot converts a large load to run on single phase? as sintra said go over 2 phases but get someone in who knows what the are doing NOT the fool you used last time.

Cant see how an inverter would be any better but worse.... it will take as much power as linking the 3ph oven out off the mains and would also add an inductive spike into the mains as well, also most 3ph ovens are installer convertable to single phase and usually have single phasing links supplied or explain in the instructions how to do so.

Depending on element arrangment and positioning it may be posible to run 2 elements with 1ph each and leave third one disconnected but this is model and make dependant and will increase the heat up time and may limit max temp' but desperate times need desperate measures.

The oven will probably have 3 separate elements (1 per phase). If this is the case you could split it over the 2 phases.

What is the make, model and rating of the oven.

It has 6 elements we split them for 2 pairs of 3 to 3 pairs of two
put in 2 extra solid state relays to turn the elements off when they reach temperature.

Dont understand what diversity has to do with this, the issue is the lights flickering as the oven pulls the elements on and off ... the DNO will usually let a user create this issue a couple of times a day, any more and they will come knocking as it can effect other users from the same sub-station.
