Hi lads and lass's

I'm after a little advice, I've spent the last 2 years going to night school and have gained the following qualifications, 2330 level 2 & 3, 2392, 2382.
My question is, what are your thoughts on doing 2391? Is it necessary?

I really value your input on this as I'm currently a service engineer so not directly working in the business.

Regards

Ben

I appreciate what you guys are saying, problem being it's super difficult to get into the trade if all you have are certificates and no experience, but then how do you get the experience if nobody will give you the chance! It's catch 22 and its for this reason I'm questioning whether to do 2391.

Hi Rik

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you mate, I work as a machine operator for an engineering firm and am facing redundancy in December so I've completely re-trained as an electrician. I studied the 2330 part time evenings over three years and have since done the 2377, 2382-02 and 2391-10. I'm also doing the 2391-20 in October, 2393 in september and DISC in July. I also plan to do a course in PV Solar Panel Installation, Inspection and Testing. I think its worth getting the lot to give yourself the best chance, you'll hear a lot of this "paper is rubbish experience is everything" but I wouldn't expect to get a job testing unless I had the certificate first. Good luck with the 2391, do you have a copy of C&G Exam Success? Worth its weight in gold!

Hi Jimmy
Yes, I have the exam success book and find it helpful. I do intend to do the 2391-20 once the 2391-10 is out of the way too, just for another string to the bow.

I don't know what you mean by "DISC", I've never heard of that before - what is that?

Also, does anyone roughly know what the pass-mark of the 2391-10 is? I've heard this floats.

HI mate have a look on C&G website anywhere between somewhere in the 30+% - 60% range depending on how hard they set the exam hard to say as they change exam to suit how many they want to pass but if you look on there website at Chief examinors reports for previous exams that will show you and also tell you the areas candidates messing up on

good luck mate

Its the Domestic Installers Scheme Certificare Rik, your local college can assess your skills on behalf of the NICEIC and award you a certificate to say your work complies with part P of the building regs. Not a very valuable certificate as it has a 100% pass rate at my college but employers don't need to know that! It all looks good on the CV.

Thanks Guy's for the helpful tips.

Hi Jimmy
Part P does not apply to Northern Ireland yet, so thankfully do not need to worry about that one for now.
