Hi mate,

i did the 2392 fundimental course in december it was an on line exam and a basic practical on a single phase board ideal course if ur just doing domestic or as a stepping stone to the 2391 i&T coure i did in march and passed there is a 3hr writen exam on a thirsday night and a practrical wich mine was in the parts i was given 3 boards to test one with faults to test one without faults and one visual inspection and you had to make a list of faults as for the writen exam they give you a senario and ask questions on it and ask you to draw a labeld fault path diagram i recomend gn3 andexam success books

I did the 2392 a while back. Found it quite basic, so would probably only spend the cash if you've got basically no experience of I&T. Lots of going over regs again, few basic calculations, little practice on a single phase board and lots of "Zs = Ze+R1+R2"!!! Exam was 50 question multiple choice, closed book, over an hour and a half, although in reality it takes about 10 minutes, and practical testing of 4 circuits. On the practical, the only thing that counts is safe isolation as far as pass/fail is concerned. Did it with some lads who were re-training from other jobs and they were quite pleased with it, but if you've got a bit of electrical experience and know your regs, I would just download safe isolation from niciec, have a practice on your friends and families installations and look at 2391 when your confident enough

Hi, i took this course after i finished my C and G 2330 level 3 apprenticeship and found both of the exams easy. However i was told by the college that you need to do 2392 before you can go on to complete the 2391? Maybe worth checking up on?

you havnt got to do the 2392 before you can do 2391 exam the choice is yours but if you hav limited experience in testing it is very advisable to undertake the 2392 before 2391 hope this helps

That's true, but in fairness to the last poster some training providers do require that the candidate do the 2392 first. I think most allow you to do the 2391 without it, however.

2391 does not require any formal qualifications but must be conversent with testing precedures.

I'm aware of that. The point is that some providers insist upon it before permitting prospective students to enrol. It is not a City and Guilds requirement.

any training centre in the uk will state there is no entry requirement for 2391, stop misleading people looking for advice. THE END

That's funny, because I have come across some which state that 2392 is required. I was clearing up that there is no official requirement for it. This does not change the fact that different centres can specify their own entry requirements so long as they implement City and Guilds' minimum requirements.

I was trying to help and don't appreciate being accused of misleading people.

you are misleading people tho, if city and guilds state there are no entry requirements why should training centres require entry requirements thts friaud, getting people to complete a course when thy dont realy need it.

Because they don't get funding unless people pass. Therefore they can do what they like to ensure that candidates are more likely to pass. I haven't done the 2392, nor do I benefit financially or any other way if people undertake the 2392. Rather, I am simply stating facts that some centres have stated requirements for it, despite it not being a City and Guilds requirement.

I'm talking about the people who oversee the Apprenticeships over here. I know for a fact that they used to REQUIRE 2392 before 2391, despite there being no such requirement from City and Guilds. I'm not attempting to justify this stance, but simply stating that it does or did exist whether you can accept that or not.
