Hi All,
anyone know how much time your allowed for the practical exam for the 2395. I was failed today for running out of time. We were given 90 mins for full EICR test and paperwork. Just seemed a bit unforgiving. Maybe just need to quicken up.
thanks.

You can do global, but there was a low ir result so had to do every circuit anyway. It's a balance of rushing through it, but making sure you find the faults and comparing results ect. Think I would have needed about another 20 mins.

DB1 - 4 circuits, 1 ring, 1 distribution, 1 f.c.u to heater and 1 3 phase D.O.L starter DB2 - 3 circuits, 1 radial final, 1 2way lighting including dimmer, 1 light with 2lamps. 7 in all, 2 faults you had to find. All results to be confirmed to Bs 7671 to be made, and schedule's, test results ect to be finished.

Isn't the 2395 a new exam...so new examination setups...it's the testing and not actually the fault finding, which is a completley different installation/booth - correct?

And they've got a low IR on one of the circuits - which must of been installed very recently. Sack the assessor lol.

Unfortunatly city and guilds decided to add faults as well. Funny enough there's still a low pass rate.

Yes it's all a bit of a panic to get through. I timed out first try, with some paperwork unfinished. Went back and took the next one. - Much easier second time because the rig is similar (though the faults will have altered..)

Its 2 hours plus about 30 minutes for the paperwork. But lets be realistic about this. in the real world you would have a look at what you are dealing with before jumping in to an installation and doing I&T. I allow a reasonable amount of time up to about 20 minutes to get familiar with the layout of the rig, then tell you to get on with it. I have never failed someone for exceeding the time, most competent testers will be able to do the test in about 2 and half hours anyway, and it becomes glaringly obvious if someone is not competent, and they usually blow it by doing something dangerous so i fail them for that. I would never fail someone who works safely and with some confidence, and explains to me any mistakes they have made, and what they are going to do to correct it, just because they go over the time by a bit. I consider it more important to do it properly and take a little bit longer, than rushing it and doing something dangerous.

You do have a right to appeal, contact your local C&G office.

Cheers...........Howard

Just taken my 2395 test........30 mins for some photos observations...if any! Then 90 mins on test rig inc 2 x faults. Then 30mins to complete paper work. Whilst i did pass, I found it damn hard work and was moving like the clappers! Wouldn't do that in real life at all!
