240v 3 phase plug?

Can someone talk me over this one?

Made an error on my order, in my haste i ordered 4 pin 240v 32amp plugs instead of 240v 3 pin 32 amp plugs, but i don't understand their application?

3 phase, 240v? Am i being a total plum here or are these specialist for certain requirements. Clearly marker L1, L2, L3 next to terminals

I believe they are used for 3phase balenced loads as they dont require s neutral.

Hi wade88 - the picture you have is a plug for a 32A 4 pin (3 Phase and Earth) appliance. Not sure why it states 200-250v, unless this is stating Line to Earth voltage rating.

We stock various adaptors for PAT testing these sorts of appliances - although our 3 phase adaptors are marked with 200-415V, and are coloured red.

you would have 130V /phase. was on a job once where the sockets were supplied by 2 phases of the 230V 3 phase supply, so there was 130 on L and 130 on N.

And there's the clue!! lol!! These Blue 230v 3 phase socket outlets are primarily for some of the European and Scandinavian countries that still use 230V 3 phase systems... Not sure these day's, if building site distribution safety transformers are 3 phase 230V or not??

I've used the plug in question before to supply portable conveyors that plug into a central wall mounted panel. The 240v plug 4 pin plug was for those motors that were being supplied by 240v inverters in the central panel which fed a blue 4 pin socket.....as specified by the factory planning department for easy maintenance of the conveyors.

As the motors are connected 240v Delta the blue plug to blue socket instead of red plug to red socket stopped your general factory worker type blowing the motors up.

240V three phase was very common when I started in the trade. It was used where the main supply was 550V and had to be transformed down.

To the best of my knowledge, they don't use the European commando type plugs and socket's, they have their own industrial UR listed type outlets...

It is a 3ph 230v plug and has the alignment mold to the left as you have photographed it... our 3ph 32amp has the alignment at a different position hence you cant plug this into a 32amp red socket
