400W Heater off lighting circuit.

Although I remember my nan had one that was fan assisted, must of been a plush model back in the day

They have been fitting cieling combined light and infa-red heater fittings for donkey's years!! Can't remember the wattage, but probably around the 500W mark.

Do they still make those fittings, can't say that i've seen them around for a while now, probably gone out of fashion, but they are still available over here in different forms, such as 2 or 3 heat lamps (switched by a pull cord) combined with a standard central lamp...

i have ripped a couple of these beautys out recently engineer, made by pifco, unfortunately the local authority have now deemed there not suitable to have 2' from your shower head, think they were 500w

Had one of those circular light fittings with the circular heating ring in my parents house for donkey's years. That would have been around 2' or 3' from the shower position too. Made life very comfortable on cold winter mornings before they had central heating installed! lol!!

Wasn't a problem then and can't see it as being a problem now either!! To my mind you can't and shouldn't legislate against muppets aiming a shower up at a heater/light fitting. Bathroom/shower room Regulations in the UK have always been draconian, perhaps the powers that be, consider Brits are a lot more stupid than their European and American cousins!! lol!!

circuit fit for load an cable protected accordingly ... just like i would add immersion on ring if it was only praactical way..... or a socket outlet for tv only

Ever heard of the old heat & light units?, I installed one last week, 60watt ES lamp surrounded by 700watt heating element, pull cord controlled, fed by lighting circuit

Ipf......no mate, coming back into fashion, perfectly safe, installed one this last week!

I do enjoy bathroom electrics

NO that must be 12v because it's dangerous! The 10.5kw 240v shower? No, that's fine

And 12v downlights are a bigger safety risk than any electrical load in a bathroom in my opinion

Or anything else, for that matter, eh

I don't think they are the same as those from 40 plus years ago, though. As E54 says, not really a problem if used correctly but with todays standards and legislation...

Bran how dare you suggest that anything non lighting should be connected to a lighting circuit. It is my belief sir that you are a witch and should be burnt immediately.
Seriously mate it's fine, just crack on and get it done

You mean a lot more safer :)
