Hi guys

Great forum

First time poster so please excuse the intrusion.

I am interested in a 4KW Solar PV system and would like the the best system but with a limited budget unfortunatley - 6k to be precise. It might be wisful thinking bout i would like thoughts please. I'm based in West Yorkshire.

Thanks

You will disappointed, average system is around 6.5-7k and depends on the situation.

You wouldn't find me installing for that price.

Popz you're going to have the installation on for 40 - 50 years, you decide whether you want to save a few quid with dodgy installers, panels and inverters and suffer the consequences for the following 40 years or pay a bit more now and get a decent quality installation. There's wishful thinking and day dreaming. I'd like a new Porsche for 20k - any offers?

if you had 20k and 500 you could have my porsch

you may have to settle for a slightly smaller system, or find an extra couple of grand!

Hi Popz

Firstly, I should mention that I am a customer and someone with an interest in solar, rather than an installer.

It will be extremely difficult to find anyone who can install 4kWp for £6k. Any who do claim to be able to do it are likely to be seriously cutting corners - either in parts or workmanship.
With a budget of £6k, you'd probably struggle to get 3kWp system.

For 4kWp and an easy-to-work-on roof, I would expect to have to spend over £7k, but you should be able to find something for less than £8k.

Hope that helps.
:8:

You will get a 4KW for £6000 Floors 4 u Have Chungi panels and Everwhatever inverters, top quality kit and I believe Ashleigh is training Pudsey to install solar for them. Is your name Greg and you are looking to drop the feed in tarrif again ???

only a grand or so extra around these parts. Competition is fierce up here.

It is down here too, but costs are also higher, scaffold minimum £600, labour costs higher, houses more expensive, even food is!

we only use branded products as well. Bosch, Hyundai, Scott, SMA, Fronius etc etc

sadly that is the way of the market, for a top quality job with solid kit, you wouldn't expect much change if any from £8k. you probably can get it for 6k but you need to find a sales company selling cheap tat who sub it out to 'bodge it and leggit ltd',without touching a panel or a ladder. either that or just get lucky. there is some discontinued stock/kits available at the moment, either not produced anymore or dumped when the manufacturer pulled out the uk, so if your installer is able to get hold of this you might get a bargin. but nothing solid to fall back on.

we offer a cheaper range using Upsolar, which tbh have always had excellent build quality, better than many supposedly premium brands, and seem to be performing well generally.

Match that with aurora power-one, and it's a decent quality low cost system. It does help that we get our scaf very cheap due to us being our scaf companies biggest customer by far.

We also then quote for Hyundai, SMA etc. as slightly higher cost options, and tbh most generally go for these, but it means we're less likely to be undercut by those only offering cheap end stuff.
