Hi guys

Many thanks for everyone's input. And thanks for the few PM's i got too.

I've just been on the comparemysolar website and noticed prices have come further down.

A 4kw HJ Solar system with a PowerOne Aurora Inverter ( inclusive of VAT and Scaffold) for £5925

What do people reckon?

I recently bought a new car. I visited a local garage I test drove it, had a good chat with a genuine sales guy without any pressure, confirmed price, deals and went off and checked it on the Internet.

I could buy it cheaper on the Internet, obviously they hadn't been able to let me test drive it, point out the differences between the different models, provide advice about servicing, driving approaches to achieve fuel economy and they couldn't provide me with a good local service deal - but they were 1k cheaper.

Who did I buy from? The local garage because when the chips are down an Internet business 300 miles away is absolutely no use to me whatsoever if I have problems. I did get a bit of movement on price from the local guy but not much and the cash I was using to buy the car went into an ISA for a couple of years, I took interest free credit and eventually there was about £200 difference for convenience of local support, faster delivery and far superior service.

I'll have my car 3 years max, maybe less. You'll have your pv operating on your roof for 40 years. Your choice is not dissimilar, a well thought through design with well thought through panel and inverter combinations, structural assessments and quality installations will yield more energy every year for 40 years.

Your choice White Lightning Cider or Champagne. We like to think we're a nice rose in between the two :-)

It's not that great, my wifes from Belarus. we're driving my parents over to meet the inlaws for the first time!:6:

I think you should go for it, that is so cheap.

Then, when it goes wrong, or is dangerous, you can call in one of us from here and pay us £1500 to put it right, that is if the DNO has not shut it off because they have not registered your system, or you roof has not collapsed because they have not had a structural survey, or health and safety have not shut the site down because of illegal practices.

You are not just buying a system here, it is the whole service.

I am not upset by someone offering a cheap system, it is just that I have seen far too many bad installs, ones that are dangerous, workmanship that people should be ashamed of.

Still it is your call, it is your money, but remember, your house is probably the most expensive thing that you will buy in your life, it would be a shame to see it burn down, or the roof structure fail just because you choose to save a few pounds.

I know which company this is, and I've no experience of them, but would question any company that doesn't host any pictures of installations they've completed on their website.

Is this the company whose website features an attractive lass in yellow holding a solar panel?
