Should a 32 amp ring circuit going through insulation in a new extention be wired in 4mm or would 2.5 still be ok.
I know 1.5 for the lights is ok if rated at 6 amps

many thanks

I do 2.5mm for radial and 16A-20A and 4mm for ring and 32A. as Jason says calcs is a must !

hi

4mm rings now if on 32amp mcb, because you cant dictate where the insulation goes.... the person who lays the stuff doesnt care about the cables! ive been putting kitchen and utility on 4mm rings and 32amp mcb and for bedrooms and lounge i still do them in 2.5mm but put them on 20amp breakers. 4mm is a bit costly though

What about the older houses. The only place you will find insulation is in the loft

4mm definitely sounds like a good plan to me. I do most of the time.

Easier to install too as its stranded.
But if you quote to do a job and you price up for 4mm,that will raise the price. If another sparks comes along and quotes for 2.5mm,who is wrong. On a rewire you will normally have 3 rings, kitchen, upstairs and downstairs. Why would you want to use 4mm.Sorry mate not being picky, but an average sized house would not need 4mm.Majority of the times all short runs
